Today, in this article I’d like to discuss a few frequently asked questions about the Remix OS specifically, not catering to the Remix mini or the Remix OS for PC individually. I have been asked these questions a few times by a lot of people, and thus, here is a collection of those questions, along with their answers for you.

How to install Remix OS 2.0 on your Windows computer?

It is really simple to install the Remix OS on your Windows Computer. It requires you to have a USB drive, 8GB in size minimum and you can install it on that USB drive. I have already posted a guide on how to install Remix OS on Windows PC. Head over to that article to know more about how to install it.

Will installing Remix OS 2.0 remove Windows from my PC?

No, installing Remix OS will not remove Windows from your PC. It will just install the Remix OS on your USB flash drive, not changing anything with your current Windows installation.

Which Windows OS versions support Remix OS 2.0?

You can install Remix OS from any version of Windows. You will need to run the Remix Install tool in order to install it from a Windows PC onto a USB drive.

What are the minimum requirements of my computer to install it?

In order to install and run the Remix OS on your computer, you need to make sure you have a 64-bit capable CPU. Apart from that, you wouldn’t need any specific hardware to run it. Even 1GB of RAM should be enough to run a smooth stable Remix OS.

Which Android version does it run? Does it have Play Store?

Remix OS Android Version

The Remix OS is based on the Android Lollipop 5.1.1 and there should be specific upgrades in the coming future. As it goes for the Play Store, the Remix OS for PC does not have the Play Store pre-installed, but you can sideload it if you want. On the other hand, the Remix Mini comes with the Play Store pre-installed.

Can I install apps using APK on Remix OS 2.0?

Yes, you can install apps using APK on the Remix OS. But just as you do it on your Android smartphone, you will have to enable installing apps from unknown sources in the settings.

Can I capture screenshots of the OS, if yes, how?

Yes, you can capture screenshots of the OS. There are two ways to capture a screenshot on the Remix OS, the first one is just pressing the Print Screen key on your keyboard. When you do this, you’ll be presented with a selection area, where you can select what area you actually want to take a screenshot of. The other way is to open the notifications tray from the right, and then choose the screenshot button at the bottom there.

How is Remix OS 2.0 different from standard Android OS?

Remix OS is based on the Android OS, and hence the core functionality of the Remix OS will remain the way it is in Android. But by adding a few tweaks and changing things around, Remix OS has been able to enhance the experience. Features like having multiple windows open at the same time definitely add to the productivity of a user, and hence, in this case the Remix OS is better than the standard Android OS. The plus point being that you can run this on your computer itself, and not rely on a small screen smartphone or tablet to experience Android.

How do I uninstall Remix OS 2.0 from my PC?

When you install Remix OS, you install it on your USB drive and not your primary hard drive. When you want to uninstall Remix OS, just remove your USB drive from your computer and boot into Windows. Then, connect your USB drive again and then just format the contents of that USB drive. You will have successfully uninstalled the Remix OS.

Will I need to install an Antivirus on the Remix OS 2.0?

No, you don’t need to install an Antivirus on the Remix OS. Since this is an Android based OS, you specifically don’t need to install an Antivirus because the Google Play Store pretty much scans every app there for Malware. But if you are going to install apps from unknown sources, you might want to make use of an Antivirus.

On which other OS can I install Remix OS 2.0 on?

As of now, you can install Remix OS on Windows, and Mac OS X. I have already shared the guide for Windows users, and we will be coming up with a guide for Mac users really soon.

Is there a file manager available on Remix OS 2.0?

Yes, there is a pre-installed file manager available on the Remix OS. This file manager allows you to manage your data, and it automatically sorts your data into different categories such as Music, Video, Document, Pictures etc.

Can Remix OS  2.0 replace Chrome OS or Windows? Is it that good?

Remix OS is based on Android, and the things that you can do on an Android-based environment are really limited. I’d say that the Remix OS is better than the usual Android experience, but still behind the Chrome OS or Windows because it does not offer as much functionality yet. In the future, it might be beneficial, but not at this point.

Can Remix OS 2.0 work if you don’t have Legacy BIOS support on your motherboard?

No, at this point Remix OS will not work on your computer if you don’t have a Legacy BIOS support on your motherboard. In the future, Remix OS has promised to launch a work around for people using UEFI Bios. So, expect that to be available in the near future.

Will installing Remix OS 2.0 in Resident mode make it available for Multiboot upon system start?

No, it will not. When you install Remix OS in the resident mode, it will just expand its file system and create a file that we call the persistence file. This persistence file will store all your data in the OS. It does not change the way your computer will boot if you unplug the Remix OS USB drive.

Why is the storage available on the USB drive less than the actual capacity of the drive

When you install an Operating System on a USB drive, and make it with the persistence mode, you have to make sure that you have your USB drive in a FAT32 mode only. And since you have that in a FAT32 mode, you will not be able to store a single file larger than 4GB, no matter what. And hence, the persistence file that is created for the Remix OS is going to be at most 4GB in size.

These were some questions that I have been asked very frequently, but if you have any more questions regarding the Remix OS on your PC, feel free to ask them in the comments section down below. I’ll try to answer as many questions as I can.
