Nexus Protect is the extended warranty coverage for Nexus devices

While announcing the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P at the event today, Google also announced a new extended warranty coverage plan, exclusive to the Nexus devices. Named as Nexus Protect, this plan will allow users to be free of headache about accidental damage or mechanical issues with the phones.

What does this plan cover? Here’s what is included:

2 years of coverage for mechanical breakdown
2 years of protection from accidental damage

Although Google didn’t detail about it as of now, this is an extended warranty after the first year of general warranty that the device gets. But here, it is about the mechanical breakdown that is taken care of, and even the accidental damage. This includes the drops and spills, so you don’t have to worry and have an extra case all the time.

While your Nexus device is being repaired at the service center, you will be given a replacement unit for the time your phone isn’t with you.

How much does the Nexus Protect cost? It is $69 for the Nexus 5X, and $89 for the Nexus 6P, and it of course is an optional plan anyone can opt to take, if they are buying one of the newly announced Nexus devices.

This isn’t the only offer that got announced today, but for the pre-orders of Nexus 5X and 6P, there will be a $50 Play Store credit given for free, and a 90-day Google Play Music subscription is also being given by Google for the pre-orders in U.S.

We’ll update here if we find more information about Nexus Protect, and the actual clauses attached with it.
