ASUS ZenFone Max M1 vs Xiaomi Redmi 6 Comparison – How do they differ?

ASUS has launched their latest sub-10K smartphone, the ASUS ZenFone Max M1, today, in India. The smartphone features a good set of features and specifications and also aims to compete with Xiaomi‘s Redmi 6. So how do these two phones compare? What similarities or dissimilarities do the two phones share? Let us find out through a quick spec comparison between the ASUS ZenFone Max M1 and the Xiaomi Redmi 6.

Design & Display

Unlike other Redmi phones, which usually have a metal build, the Xiaomi Redmi 6 comes with a curved plastic back. The ASUS ZenFone Max M1 too has a basic design with a plastic back, similar to the Redmi 6. Both the phones come with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner for securing the phone.

Both the ASUS ZenFone Max M1 and the Xiaomi Redmi 6 comes with a 5.45-inch HD+ display that has a 720×1440p resolution. The two phones do not have any notch and have a standard 18:9 aspect ratio. Additionally, the ZenFone Lite L1’s screen is covered under a 2.5D curved glass.

Processor, RAM & Storage

The ASUS ZenFone Max M1 comes with a Snapdragon 430 SOC with Adreno 505 GPU, which is the same chipset that powers the Lite L1 as well. The Redmi 6, on the other hand, comes with MediaTek Helio P22 SOC which comes with PowerVR GE8320 GPU.

As for the storage, the ZenFone Max M1 comes only in a 3 GB RAM with 32 GB storage variant, whereas the Redmi 6 comes in either 3 GB RAM with 32 GB storage or 3 GB RAM with 64 GB storage variants. Thankfully both the phones offer a dedicated microSD card slot for storage expansion.

Cameras

For imaging, the ASUS ZenFone Max M1 comes with a single 13 MP rear-facing camera which has a f/2.0 aperture and offers Phase Detection AutoFocus. On the front, the phone has an 8 MP selfie shooter with a similar f/2.0 lens attached to it.

The Redmi 6 on the other hand, comes with a dual camera setup on the back, with a primary 12 MP camera which has af/2.2 aperture and secondary 5 MP unit which has a similar f/2.2 lens and is used for capturing depth information for portraits. There’s a 5 MP selfie camera to the front of the device.

Battery

The ASUS ZenFone Max M1, as the name suggests comes with a sizeable 4000 mAh battery which leaves the Redmi 6’s 3000 mAh far behind. Although we haven’t tested them together, its a no-brainer who’s going to win the battery game. Not just that, the ZenFone Max M1 also has another trick up its sleeve, which is Reverse Charging. You can use the Max M1 as a power bank and charge other phones with it.

OS & Interface

The ZenFone Max M1 and the Xiaomi Redmi 6 run Android 8.1 Oreo, with their own UIs on top. The ZenFone Max M1 comes with ZenUI 5.0 while the Redmi 6 comes with MIUI 9.6 on top.

Both the UIs are clunky are far from being called clean. Also, we can’t assure you that both the phones will receive the latest Android updates or the security updates, as we are highly doubtful ourselves.

Price

The ASUS ZenFone Max M1 comes for INR 8,999, but can be picked up for INR 7,499 during the Flipkart Festive Dhamaka offer. The Redmi 6 is available for INR 7,999 for the 3 GB RAM with 32 GB storage variant and INR 9,499 for the 3 GB RAM with 64 GB storage variant.
