LG V30 VS Samsung Galaxy Note8 Comparison – The race to the top!

The battle between brands and their flagships is just getting intensified every day. Samsung recently launched their latest flagship, the Note 8 which had some of the best specs in the smartphone market right now and some very exciting features. With IFA 2017 happening in Berlin right now we know that there is still a lot that we can expect to be launched in the coming few days. Today LG took an opportunity to unveil their latest flagship, the LG V30 with a 6” POLED Full Vision disapply.

This device comes with a premium Quad DAC for a much better audio experience. It is also the world’s first f/1.6 aperture dual camera phone. We feel that this device is a great competitor for the Galaxy Note 8, and with both the devices being launched on September 15th in the US, they’re going to be stiff competitors of each other.

The Display and overall Design:

The V30 from LG looks a lot like the Samsung Galaxy S8+ in terms of the design on front, the metal frame covering the glass front and black panels make the devices look very similar. This device has a 6” POLED display and an aspect ratio of 18:9 and you can barely notice any bezels around the rounded corners. On the other hand, the Galaxy Note 8 comes with a 6.3” Quad HD display and is even taller with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. Since both the devices have almost bezel-less displays it was impossible to squeeze in a finger print scanner on the front and both the devices decided to have the fingerprint scanner on the rear side of the device.

Although the Galaxy Note 8 is slightly thicker and taller the width is much lesser despite having a larger display. Both the devices are made of high-quality materials and they feel very premium in hand. Both the devices come with IP68 certification against dust and water.

The Processor and battery:

Both the devices satisfy and even surpass the minimum requirements of a flagship device, the LG V30 comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset and 4GB of RAM for butter like smooth performance. Coming to the storage the device will be available in 64GB and 128GB variants.

The Galaxy Note 8 comes in 2 variants and have either a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset or their own Exynos 88895 chipset paired with 6GB of RAM. Unsurprisingly both the devices are very capable and with 6GB of RAM in the Galaxy Note 8, the device can have several apps running glitch free in the background. The device comes in 64,128 and 256GB variants and both the devices come with 3300mAh non-removable battery which should last you about a day on full charge.

The Dual camera and their software:

Both the devices come with a dual camera setup and the LG V30 has upped the game by a level by including a f/1.6 aperture lens which is also the largest aperture lens in any smartphone till date. The rear camera setup consists of a 16MP regular lens paired with a 70-degree field of view and OIS hardware. There is also a 13MP wide-angle lens paired which gives a 120-degree field of view. This lens doesn’t have OIS and is mainly used to achieve the bokeh effect frequently seen on DSLR captured images. The front camera is a more modest 5MP shooter like the ones present in the LG V20 and the LG G6.

Coming to the Galaxy Note 8, the device has a dual rear camera setup which is a first for Samsung. Both the cameras are 12MP shooters with f/1.7 aperture. They come with dual pixel technology and OIS on both the sensors. One of the lenses is a telephoto lens with a 2x optical zoom support thereby providing 2x optical zoom and up to 10x digital zoom using software and hardware optimization. The front camera on this device is an 8MP shooter with a f/1.7 aperture. Again, It is a very rare scenario to find a f/1.7 aperture front facing camera. This greatly helps in low light selfies without the help of a front flash. The Galaxy Note 8 is also the first device to have OIS in both the rear facing cameras.

Pricing and availability:

The LG V30 is going to available in South Korea from September 21st onwards and this will be followed by launches in other major markets like the US, UK, and the middle east. As of now, the device is freshly launched and the company has not yet announced the pricing of the device yet.
The Galaxy Note 8 is going to be rolled out globally on September 15th and India should also get the device around the same time. Considering the US pricing, the device is expected to cost north of Rs 65,000.
