Motorola Moto G 3rd Gen (2015) vs Moto G 2nd Gen (2014) Comparison

Motorola has chosen only the Moto G 3rd gen. for the launch in Indian market, and that is quite okay for now, as the device announced has got some good specs. But whether it is worth an upgrade over its predecessor, the Moto G 2nd gen. still remains a question.

Display:

Motorola has not bothered to do anything about the display and has stuck to the same 5-inch HD display with 720p resolution like the one we saw in the Moto G 2nd Gen. There is an addition of Coroning Gorilla Glass protection added to the Moto G 3rd Gen which was not present in the earlier model.

Processor and RAM:

There is an upgrade in this segment where the Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor has been upgraded with the Snapdragon 410 processor and the RAM has been doubled with a 2GB RAM in comparison to the 1GB RAM in the Moto G 2nd Gen. This will surely improve the performance of the device in segments where the earlier model was lagging behind.

Camera:

The camera is another aspect where there has been a major upgrade with the Moto G 3rd Gen getting a 13MP rear camera with Dual LED flash as compared to the 8MP camera with LED flash in the Moto G 2nd Gen. The front camera has also been upgraded to a 5MP shooter compared to the 2MP camera in the earlier model.

Operating System:

The Moto G third Gen comes with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS out of the box compared to the Moto G 2nd which came with Kitkat 4.4.4. There has been an update available for the Moto G 2nd gen to get the Android Lollipop 5.0 update but users have been complaining about problems after the update and are reverting back to Kitkat. Hope there is no such issue with the Moto G 3rd Gen.

Battery:

There is an upgrade in this section as well, with the Moto G 3rd Gen getting 2470 mAh battery compared to the 2070 mAh battery of the Moto G 2nd Gen. The exact standby time and talktime details can only be updated after we review the device.

Price:

The Moto G 3rd Gen is being priced slightly higher than the predecessor with a price tag of Rs. 11,999 for the 8GB model as compared to the Rs. 10,999 price tag of the Moto G 2nd Gen.
