Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro vs Redmi Note 5: How do they differ?

The much-awaited a heavily teased Xiaomi Redmi 5 Note Series has finally been launched in India. The company announced two very similar devices, the Redmi Note 5 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro. The Redmi Note 5 comes with slightly lower specs and will be offered at a lower price tag while the Redmi Note 5 Pro will come with slightly bumped up specs for a marginally higher price point.

Display

Both, the Redmi Note 5 as well as the Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with the same 5.99-inch display and have the FullHD+ resolutions while the Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a slightly better contrast ratio at 1500:1 vs 1000:1 found on the Redmi Note 5 according to the spec sheet. Both the displays measure the exact same and have the same 2160×1080 FullHD+ resolution which results in the same pixel density. There is very little difference in terms of the display that can set apart both the device.

Performance

The performance of the devices will be a key differentiating factor here as they both come with different SoC. The Redmi Note 5 comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset with the Adreno 506 graphics while the Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with the newer and faster Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset while retaining the same Adreno 506 GPU. While both the processors are very powerful, comparing them both would put the Redmi Note 5 Pro slightly ahead in the race when it comes to performance and efficiency.

RAM and Storage Options

The Redmi Note 5 comes in two variants and you can choose between the 3GB RAM with 32GB storage variant or the 4GB RAM with 64GB storage variant. The Redmi Note 5 Pro, on the other hand, comes in three variants and lets you choose between 3GB RAM with 32GB storage or 4GB RAM with 64GB storage and also has the third variant that offers 6GB RAM with 64GB Storage.

The primary camera on the Redmi Note 5 is a 12MP camera and the front camera is a 5MP camera with beautify 3.0 feature, in the case of the Redmi Note 5 Pro, the primary camera is a dual camera setup consisting of a 12MP camera with a 5MP camera for depth sensing and portrait mode. The front camera on the Redmi Note 5 Pro is a 20MP camera with Beautify 4.0. Both the devices come with front-facing LED flash to light up the dull images in low light conditions.

Rest of the device is fairly identical and both the devices come with a hybrid dual SIM slot and have the fingerprint sensors on the back of the device. The battery on both the devices is a 4000mAh battery with 5V/2A input for charging. Both the devices run on the Android Nougat based MIUI 9 and have on-screen buttons for navigation. In terms of colors, both the devices will be available in four colors letting you choose from either Black, Rose Gold, Blue or Gold.

Both the devices offer excellent specifications for the price and the choice of one device over the other boils down to the price and what the user expects from the phone. While the Redmi Note 5 Pro offers slightly better specifications and a better camera, the Redmi Note 5 is even more budget friendly than the Redmi Note 5 Pro.

While the two variants of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 are launched at Rs. 9999 and Rs. 11999, the Redmi Note 5 Pro is priced at Rs. 13999 and Rs. 16999 for the two variants, the best of all having 6GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage.
