Samsung Portable T3 SSD

Samsung T3 is an SSD with size smaller than a business card

Samsung’s SSDs have not just their speeds and storage to boast about but the size is one of the talking factors. Last year, the T1 with 1TB storage had impressed the lot with its performance and size, but now, the Samsung T3 is just a lot more than that.

Announced at the CES 2016 event, the Samsung T3 SSD is smaller than a standard business card, with the dimensions of 2.91 x 2.28 x 0.41 inches, and it comes encased in a metallic case that is durable and can withstand 1500G of force, and can even survive drops from a height of six feet.

The storage capacities range from 250GB to 2TB, and the weight of T3 is almost double of the T1 drive, still quite less at just 1.8 ounces. The new addition to the T3 drive is the USB 3.1 Type-C connection, which will be a benefit for a few latest laptops, including the new Apple Macbook and the Dell XPS series laptops.

When it comes to speeds, the read and write speeds are at 450 Mbps at USB 3.1, and this is the same as it was on the T1. There is AES 256-bit hardware encryption for Windows, Mac and Android devices.

While Samsung hasn’t announced the price of T3, it is expected to be around $800, given the $600 price tag for the T1. The first cycle of launch will happen in U.S., China, Korea and select European countries, followed by the other markets soon. The first rollout is going to happen in February 2016, and that is when we will know about the price.
