Android Wear 2.0 watches

Google and LG’s Watch Sport & Style are first Android Wear 2.0 watches

Google and LG are said to be in a partnership that was similar when the Nexus 4 and 5 were made, and this new partnership is for the first devices to be made with the Android Wear 2.0 OS. Named as the Watch Style and Watch Sport, these watches from LG will be the first to have the updated major OS version of Android Wear.

The company is said to be introducing these new smartwatches when there will be an announcement one for the new OS version. According to Evleaks (Evan Blass, who contributes at Venturebeat), the watches will be available the very next day in the U.S. and the rollout to other markets will continue in February and March, and LG will have these smartwatches at their MWC 2017 booth in Barcelona to showcase the new products.

The difference in the two models is not just the size but also in the shades they come in. The 14.2-millimeters thick Watch Sport has Titanium and Dark Blue color options while the 10.8-millimeter thick Watch Style has swappable straps with titanium, silver, and rose gold options.

LG Watch Sport is the better one and the flagship product having not just a bigger watch face but also a better resolution, i.e. 480 x 480 pixels on 1.38-inch screen compared to the 360 x 360 pixels on the 1.2-inch screen on the LG Watch Style. The other significant difference lies in the battery capacity, where the Sport has a 430 mAh battery compared to the 240 mAh one on the Style and a slightly better RAM capacity is also seen (768MB vs. 512MB).

For the connectivity, while there are Bluetooth and Wi-Fi on both, the Watch Sport has cellular data connectivity as well as NFC for the Android Pay capability. Something that looks similar to the Apple Watch is the presence of the digital crown that will help in navigation, and now, Android Wear has full support for iOS, so these new watches will work with the iPhone.

While the Watch Sport is IP68 certified, the Watch Style settles with the IP67 certification for water and dust resistance and these both are said to be having the Google Assistant integration.
