Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 412 and 212 quad-core processors

    Qualcomm, the Chipset maker which is well trusted by all big and small mobile manufacturers has announced two new Quad-core processors, one in the 200 series and another one in the 400 series. These processors are aimed at low-end smartphones. With every low-end smartphone having 4G LTE support, Qualcomm has made both these processors equipped with LTE capability.

    These processors are targeted at the low-end smartphone market which is currently captured by MediaTek. the Snapdragon 212 processor comes with ARM Cortex A7 quad-core SoC which is clocked up to 1.3GHz. It supports display up to 720p. To be LTE enabled it is coupled with X5 LTE modem with support for BT4. 1 BLE and 1-stream 802. 11n (2.4GHz) and Adreno 304 GPU. The Snapdragon 212 processor is capable of supporting smartphones with 8-megapixel camera capable of recording fullHD videos at 1080p resolution. The smartphones can also be equipped with support for HEVC media format and Quick Charge 2.0. It supports connectivity features like Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.1 + BLE, NFC and GPS.

    The snapdragon 412 processor is the other SoC announced by Qualcomm which features Cortex A53 quad-core chipset which is clocked up to 1.4 GHz. The processor is of 64-bit capable and offers improved performance and graphics. It comes with Adreno 3o6 GPU and can support up to 13.5 MP camera with full-HD video playback. Supports Display up to WUXGA (1920×1200), 720p external display. It also supports 4G LTE modem and supports up to Cat 4 speeds which is up to 150 Mbps. It supports Quick charge 2.0 and up to 3A output along with connectivity features like Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.1 + BLE.

    Both the processors are equipped with the same CPU as their predecessors from last year but the clock speed has been increased and an additional feature of 4G LTE capability has been added to make them suitable to the present needs of smartphone makers.

    The availability of these processors to OEM’s is yet to be revealed by Qualcomm. With the segment that it is targeting and the features at offer, MediaTek is going to get some tough competition in the low-end mobile market.
