Vivo’s to start operations in Noida Unit and create 2,200 Jobs

Chinese Smartphone maker Vivo announced that it will be building a facility for smartphone manufacturing in Greater Noida which will be becoming operational by the end of this month. Vivo is investing in India in phases and the first round of investment is done, the second round of investment is said to be done around early next year.

For the first phase of funding, the company has already invested Rs. 125 crore into the assembling unit, which will be creating close to 2,200 jobs along with 2000 managerial positions and is all set to achieve its target of over one million phones per month.

Vivo Global CMO and India CEO Alex Feng told PTI,“At the end of this month our Greater Noida assembling unit will be operational that will bring over 2,000 jobs for the product lines and around 200 managerial positions also. The maximum capacity will be one million units per month,” he added talking about the investment “Second phase investment will be made early next year for R&D and even manufacturing. We have to identify the quantum of amount we will be investing,”

Vivo is one Chinese company which is concentrating more on Offline marketing and sales by not relying just on online sales. Many local and International manufacturers like Gionee, Lenovo, Intex and Micromax have already invested to start manufacturing in India. Recently local companies Micromax, Karbonn, Celkon and Lava will be manufacturing in Tirupati. The four companies will be setting up their manufacturing units in a 122-acre space dividing between the four companies, together the companies are planning to manufacture more than 7 crore smartphone per month. OnePlus has also partnered with Foxconn to manufacture mobiles in India, recently Gionee had launched their first Made in India smartphone the Gionee F103 in Andhra Pradesh.

With Indian government offering various incentives to companies to manufacture in India to promote the Make In India initiative like capital subsidy and tax benefits for companies setting up local units. Vivo is already selling around one lakh units per month and will be looking to increase the sales with this set up. Vivo is already present in over 100 countries across the globe and is actively expanding in other countries as well.
