Youtube has announced the ad-free subscription service, named Youtube Red, and this is a service that has been rumored in the recent past and it finally gets official. The service is to begin from October 28th, and it costs $9.99 per month.

One of the most important inclusions in this service, will be the background playing feature where one can stream videos or music while having the screen turned-off. It is going to be a complete ad-free experience, and the users will be able to save the clips for offline viewing.

While paying no extra amount, users who subscribe to Youtube Red service will be getting Google Play Music subscription for free. There’s a vice-versa here. If you already are paying for Google Play Music service, you are going to get the Youtube Red subscription for free.

Currently, Youtube Red is available only for U.S. subscribers. If you leave the U.S., you won’t be able to save videos offline, videos won’t play in the background, and you will see ads. Any videos that you’ve saved offline before leaving the U.S., will continue to be available offline for 30 days.

Youtube Red will be available for Youtube for mobile (Android and iOS), and the ad-free videos on TV can be watched through Chromecast, Android TV, Apple TV, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, Playstation 3, Roku and other supported Smart TVs. Offline and background play are only available on the YouTube and YouTube Gaming apps for Android and iOS.

Details are scarce, and we cannot find whether the download feature would be available to all the videos, including those which the users were not able to save using the Youtube Offline feature. We also don’t know on when Google plans to extend this service to other countries. Check out Youtube Red.

Youtube has also introduced the Youtube Music app, that will stream music in the background, for free, and without ads if the user is a Youtube Red subscriber.
