Android One phones getting Android Lollipop OTA Update in India

Google has finally, yes finally, started rolling out the Android Lollipop update to Android One smartphones in India. It was a long wait for the users already who were promised 2 years of software support and given the way Google had promoted the Android One series with stock ROM, the Lollipop update was expected sooner than this.

Nevertheless, it is better late than never in this case. As shared by the Google Plus account,

To those with Android One phones in India, here’s where we are with the over-the-air (OTA) update that will bring Android Lollipop to you soon. We’ve already started rolling out Lollipop to a small number of phones in India. This is a gradual process and so each week we’ll push the OTA update to more phones selected at random (pro-tip: connecting over WiFi will increase your odds). We thank you again for your patience, and please stay tuned for further updates.

The three Android One smartphones right now, the Spice Dream Uno, Karbonn Sparkle and Micromax Canvas A1, are all the ones which are going to receive the update, and except for being connected to the Wi-Fi network, there is no other way a user might be able to get the update. It is still going to be a wait for a few days, weeks or so, but having heard an official word from the company is something good and satisfying for the Android One users.

Android 5.0 Lollipop

It is said that Android 5.0.2 Lollipop OS might be rolled out to these phones, but as we had seen recently that the newly launched Android One smartphones in Philippines had Android 5.1 running in them already, and thus, the expectation for the Indian users is higher and the 5.1 version is what most would ask.

Go to Settings > About > Software update to keep checking while connected to Wi-Fi, if there is an update showing up in your Android One device.
