Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime launched in India for Rs. 6999

With the Xiaomi event coming, and the MIUI 7 OS launch slated for release on August 13th, we had speculated that there will be a smartphone launched as well. We earlier mentioned that the device is rumored to be Xiaomi Redmi Note 2, and here is another device which has made a brief appearance on Amazon India website – Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime.

Update: The Redmi 2 Prime is now available on Amazon India after its official announcement, and the device is priced at Rs. 6999, available in two color options – grey and white.

The announcement is made at Vishakapatnam in India, and this is the first “Made in India” phone from Xiaomi, going with the “Make in India” campaign that was proposed by the Indian govt. recently.

The Redmi 2 Prime comes with improved specifications as an upgrade to the Redmi 2. So let us have a look at the specifications of the Redmi 2 Prime, it comes with a 4.7 inch IPS HD capacitive display with resolution of 1280×720 pixels resolution. It has a pixel density of 312 PPI.

It is powered by 1.2 GHz MSM8916 Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with Adreno 306 GPU. It is supported by 2GB of RAM and comes paired with 16GB internal memory which is expandable up to 32GB with microSD card. It comes equipped with 8MP rear camera with omnivision image sensor and a 2MP front facing camera. It will be coming with Android Kitkat v4.4 operating system with MIUI over it. Whether it will be updated to MIUI 7 or not is not clear as of now, but it will be launched alongside the MIUI 7 is what we are expecting along with Xiaomi Redmi Note 2.

The difference here with the original Xiaomi Redmi 2, is with the internal storage and RAM, as it has 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage compared to 1GB RAM and 8GB internal storage in the original Redmi 2.

It is going to be a Dual SIM device (GSM+GSM), will be powered by a 2200mAh lithium-polymer battery, the same technology which was introduced by OnePlus in their power bank. We have to wait and see how this upgrade affects the battery life of this variant of Redmi 2. It will be coming with 1 year manufacturer warranty for device, and 6 months manufacturer warranty for in-box accessories including batteries from the date of purchase from Amazon India.

The pricing of the Redmi 2 Prime has not been revealed yet, which is the main factor in Xiaomi smart phones. We are expecting it to be priced slightly above the Redmi 2. Let us wait for a few more days, so that we can bring you first hand live news from the Xiaomi Event on August 13th.

There’s also another variant launched in China, i.e. the Redmi 2A. Check the Redmi 2A vs Redmi 2 comparison.
