Microsoft Windows 10 is the latest version of Windows from Microsoft that had hit the market with its final build last week. But just upgrading your computer to Windows 10 for free isn’t enough. You need to be able to customize and personalize it the way you like your windows. There are a lot of things that you can customize in Windows 10 to your liking but here are the best ones to look for.
#1 Personalize the Start Menu
The Start menu is something that has created a huge buzz with its return in the all new Windows 10. Earlier, I wrote an article describing what all can you customize in the Start menu to your liking. If you have not read that article yet, I’d ask you to go and read it right now by clicking here.
#2 Personalize the Desktop Background
The Desktop background is something that everyone likes to customize as they want. Be it putting a picture of your pet, or putting a cute picture of you and your friends, everyone likes to just put up a picture there. I’m of the kind that likes to put some scenic view on my desktop to just gaze at it. To change your Desktop background on Windows 10, follow these simple steps:
- Right click on the Desktop
- Go to Personalize and you’ll be brought to the background section automatically
- You can either choose pre-defined images here or browse for your own images from the drop down menu
#3 Personalize the Lock Screen
Just like the Desktop Background, everyone likes to put a custom image at the lock screen and doing do is very easy with Windows 10. Apart from the background, you can also choose apps you want notifications from on your lock screen. To do all of that, you can follow these really simple steps.
- Right click on your desktop and choose Personalize
- Choose Lock screen from the menu on the left
- You can now choose the image you want to be displayed on the Lock screen of your computer
- Just below that, you can choose settings for other various apps for notifications on your Lock screen
#4 Install Pre-Designed Themes
A good thing that has been included in Windows for the past some time is the use of themes. I remember that in the days of Windows XP, in order to apply a theme, you would have to use a third party software. You can now simply choose existing themes on your computer or search for more online by just a few clicks. Though Microsoft has not updated the Themes section with their Metro UI look, it is still a handy feature. Here are the steps to do the same.
- Right click on your Desktop and Choose Personalize (just like always)
- Choose themes from the side menu
- Then choose Theme Settings
- On the next window, choose the theme that you want, or select the option to look for new themes online
#5 Color your Windows 10
The last but not the least customization that you can do to your Windows installation is to change the color of the Start menu background or the taskbar. I know I have already covered it in the Start menu customization guide but just in case you haven’t read that, here’s how you can get that done.
- Right click on your Desktop and choose Personalize
- Choose Colors from the side menu
- You can now let Windows automatically choose the colors based on your Desktop background or select one that you like
- You can also choose the option to display color on various elements of Windows or not
I hope that the customization tips listed above helped you customize or personalize your Windows 10 machine as the way you like it. There may be certain features that you were not able to customize yet. Do let me know in the comments section below which areas are you interested in customizing and I’ll be sure to share a guide with you in the coming days.
My name in Windows 10 is misspelled: it should be Arturo Southam. Thank you for correcting it!
