Jio ₹123 vs ₹189: Why the Cheaper Plan Has More Data, and Who Can Use It

jio 123 vs 189 plan

Reliance Jio’s ₹123 and ₹189 prepaid plans share several benefits, including 28-day validity, unlimited voice calls and 300 SMS. However, the cheaper recharge comes with a device eligibility requirement that makes a price-only comparison misleading.

The ₹123 recharge belongs to Jio’s 4G Feature Phone Plan category. The ₹189 option serves smartphone users who want calling benefits with a small mobile data allowance. Here is what customers should check before recharging.

Benefit Jio ₹123 Jio ₹189
Intended device category Eligible 4G feature phones Smartphones
Validity 28 days 28 days
Voice calls Unlimited Unlimited
SMS 300 total 300 total
High-speed data 0.5GB per day 2GB for the entire validity
Data across 28 days 14GB, subject to daily limits 2GB total
Approximate cost per day ₹4.39 ₹6.75

Who can use Jio’s ₹123 plan?

Jio’s current recharge page defines 4G feature phones as devices with a physical keypad that support its 4G LTE-VoLTE services. Customers should check their handset and number against the applicable plans before paying.

The ₹123 recharge should therefore not be presented as a cheaper smartphone recharge that everyone can switch to. Its device category is central to the offer.

Older references may describe it as a JioBharat plan. Jio’s current website uses the broader “4G Feature Phone Plan” category, following a reported renaming in May 2026.

Daily data and total data work differently

Jio’s own JioBharat FAQ lists the ₹123 recharge with 0.5GB per day for 28 days. Multiplying the daily allowance by the validity gives 14GB, but that does not mean the customer receives a 14GB pool to spend at any time.

For example, using 1GB in one day would exceed this plan’s daily high-speed allowance, even if the customer had barely used data earlier in the week.

The ₹189 plan instead provides a shared 2GB allowance across all 28 days. Someone can use more of it on one particular day, but doing so leaves less for the remaining validity. It does not provide 2GB every day.

Reported plan details list reduced speeds of 64Kbps after the respective high-speed quotas are used up.

Is ₹123 better value?

For an eligible feature-phone customer, the headline arithmetic is attractive: ₹66 less per recharge and seven times the cumulative high-speed data allowance. The saving works out to approximately ₹2.36 per day over 28 days.

For a smartphone customer, handset eligibility comes first. A lower advertised price is useful only when the recharge applies to the device being used.

Neither pack is voice-only, since both include data. Both also last 28 days, rather than a full calendar month. Check the current benefits shown for your Jio number in MyJio before completing a recharge.
