Jio ₹349 vs Airtel ₹499 Postpaid: Which Is the Better Budget Plan?

Jio vs Airtel Postpaid Plans

Choosing an affordable postpaid connection involves more than comparing the advertised monthly rental. Data allowances, GST and the benefits you actually use can change which plan offers better value.

For individual customers, Jio’s entry-level postpaid option is listed at ₹349 per month, while Airtel’s current individual plan starts at ₹499 per month. Airtel introduced its revised lineup on October 8, 2026, making older comparisons based on its ₹449 starting price outdated.

Jio ₹349 vs Airtel ₹499: Benefits compared

Feature Jio ₹349 postpaid Airtel ₹499 postpaid
Individual connections One One
Monthly rental before GST ₹349 ₹499
Rental including 18% GST ₹411.82 ₹588.82
Domestic voice calls Unlimited Unlimited

Billing Monthly billing cycle Monthly billing cycle

Jio’s official listing identifies the ₹349 pack as an individual plan with 30GB and True 5G benefits. Airtel’s current announcement and terms confirm its ₹499 rental plan, unlimited data and calling, and a daily SMS allowance.

The GST-inclusive amounts above represent the rental calculation. Additional usage, optional services and applicable initial charges can change the actual bill.

Jio offers the lower monthly bill

The main attraction of Jio’s ₹349 plan is its price. Including 18% GST, the rental works out to ₹411.82, compared with ₹588.82 for Airtel.

That creates a difference of ₹177 per month, or ₹2,124 over 12 monthly bills, assuming the rentals remain unchanged and there are no additional charges.

For someone who mostly uses Wi-Fi and needs a postpaid connection for calls, messages and occasional mobile internet, paying more only makes sense if the additional benefits—or better local reception—justify the difference.

The data benefits need a closer look

Jio’s 30GB allowance applies across the billing cycle; it is not a daily allocation. The plan also carries True 5G benefits, so eligible customers with compatible phones and coverage can access unlimited 5G. Customers spending considerable time on 4G should still pay attention to the bundled allowance.

Airtel advertises unlimited data on 4G and 5G networks. Its terms, however, classify usage beyond 300GB per billing cycle as commercial usage and allow restrictions under its usage policy. Customers should read “unlimited” alongside those conditions.

This distinction matters more for someone who streams or downloads frequently than for a light user.

Airtel adds an international roaming benefit

Airtel’s ₹499 plan includes an annual five-day international roaming benefit with 5GB of data, 60 calling minutes and 25 outgoing SMS. Eligibility and activation conditions apply, including a qualifying service period for new customers.

That could be useful for someone traveling abroad. A customer who rarely travels should weigh the plan primarily on its domestic benefits and reception.

Which plan should you choose?

Jio ₹349 is the stronger budget choice for an individual who wants the lowest postpaid rental between these two operators, provided its coverage is reliable where they use the phone.

Airtel ₹499 deserves consideration for customers who value its broader data allowance, international roaming benefit or better reception in their particular location.

For someone who barely uses their phone, prepaid options can still cost substantially less. Postpaid makes more sense when monthly billing and its bundled benefits are worth the higher ongoing expense.
