How to Add Base to MetaMask and Bridge ETH or USDC

First, to add Base to MetaMask, you can enable the network from MetaMask’s network list or enter Base’s official RPC settings manually. After that, you need assets on the Base network—not merely at the same wallet address on another chain.

6. Save the network and make Base active.

However, the labels can move as MetaMask updates its interface. However, the important check is that the active network shows chain ID 8453.

Method 1: Withdraw ETH or USDC directly to Base

For example, a direct withdrawal is often simpler than bridging. In addition, it is available only when the sending exchange supports Base for the selected asset.

1. Copy your MetaMask public address.
2. Open the withdrawal page on the exchange holding your funds.

9. Track both the source transaction and the Base arrival.

Bridging USDC: what to verify

Therefore, token tickers are not enough. Multiple bridged or imitation tokens can use similar names. Confirm that the bridge will deliver the USDC version supported by the app you intend to use on Base.

• Verify the token contract from Circle, Base documentation or the receiving app.
• Check the final amount after bridge and network fees.
• Leave enough ETH on the source network for approval and bridge transactions.
• Keep or obtain enough ETH on Base for later transactions.

How much ETH should remain for Base gas?

In addition, Base fees are generally small, but they are not zero and can vary. For example, a simple transfer costs less than a complex swap, bridge or liquidity action. Keeping a modest ETH buffer prevents USDC from becoming temporarily unusable because the wallet has no gas.

Funds arrived but do not appear

Meanwhile, search your address on BaseScan. If the balance is onchain, switch MetaMask to Base and add the verified token contract to the wallet’s asset list.

Insufficient funds for gas

As a result, you need ETH on the network processing the current transaction. ETH on Base cannot pay an Ethereum mainnet fee, and Ethereum ETH cannot pay a Base fee until it is bridged or withdrawn to Base.

The bridge transaction is stuck

First check the source transaction hash. If it is pending, the bridge cannot proceed. If it succeeded, use the bridge’s status page and official support with the transaction hash. Never give support staff a seed phrase.

USDC is visible but an app will not accept it

However, the wallet may hold a different token contract with the same ticker. Compare the contract address with the app’s supported asset.
