Vivo X21 with Snapdragon 660, In-display fingerprint scanner launched in India

After two months of wait, Vivo has finally brought their flagship smartphone from their X-series, the X21 UD dubbed as Vivo X21 to India, today. The X21 UD is the successor to the X20 Plus UD, the first smartphone to feature an in-display fingerprint scanner that was first showcased at the CES 2018, at Vegas.

The Vivo X21 sports a 6.28 inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2280×1080 pixels. The 19:9 display has the usual notch on the top and a respectable 402 PPI pixel-dense display. The display covers 99.5% of DCi P3 color gamut and 99.9% of sRGB color space. Underneath the hood, the phone packs a Snapdragon 660 AIE, alongside the Adreno 512 GPU. It comes with ample 6 GB RAM and 128 GB of expandable internal storage up to 256 GB via a microSD card. The phone runs on Funtouch OS 4.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. The phone comes with AI features using the Qualcomm AIE Artificial Intelligence Chip.

For the cameras, the Vivo uses a dual rear camera, a 12 MP primary sensor with a F/1.8 lens on top and a 5 MP secondary shooter with a F/2.4 aperture which is used for capturing depth information for portrait shots. To the front, there’s a 12 MP selfie camera with a F/2.0 aperture, which can output 24 MP higher resolution images and has AI beauty recognition for all selfie fanatics. The phone comes with AI beauty and other AI effects that we have seen in their previous smartphones such as the Vivo V9. The phone can detect up to 17 scenes automatically using the AI scene recognition. Both the 12 MP rear and front cameras come with Dual Pixel AF technology for faster focus and better pictures.

The selfie camera comes with facial recognition technology, which can be used for face unlock. The phone also has an IR fill light on the front which is used for fast Face Wake 2.0 with 3D mapping. Apart from the Face unlock, the phone also features an under-display fingerprint scanner. It uses an FS9500 CMOS sensor to capture the fingerprint information when a finger is placed on the screen.

The phone has a 3000 mAh battery underneath which can be fast charged using the supplied 9V 2A charging brick. For connectivity, the phone supports dual 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, FM Radio and an ancient micro USB port. For all the audiophiles, the phone features a 3.5 mm headphone jack along with an AK4376A high audio chip.

Pricing and Availability of Vivo X21

The Vivo X21 comes in Red, Black and Ruby colors. It is priced at INR 35,990 and will be available online exclusively on Flipkart, starting from today. The phone will also be available offline from select Vivo stores, across India.
