Huawei Mate X announced with foldable display, 55W Supercharge

MWC Barcelona has kicked off in a very exciting manner and we’ve already seen some major announcements from Xiaomi, Nokia and now from Huawei. The Huawei Mate is the first foldable smartphone form the brand and has been showcased right in time after considering that Samsung has recently showcased their Galaxy Fold.

Unlike as we saw in the case of the Galaxy Fold that comes with two discrete displays and one that folds internally, Huawei has gone for a different approach with this folds around the hinge externally making it a dual-screen smartphone. This allows you to shoot selfies with the primary camera or share what’s on the display to a person on the other side. In the full-size mode, the Huawei Mate X comes with a large 8-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2,480 x 2,200. The bezels are minimal throughout the smartphone and the side panel has a home button to power button, the USB Type-C port, and a quad-camera setup powered by Leica.

In the folded mode, the Huawei Mate X gets a dual screen with one display measuring 6.6-inches and having a resolution of 2,480 x 1,148 and the other one being slightly smaller at 6.38-inches and having a resolution of 2,480 x 1,148. The device comes with a very slim profile and is just 11mm thick despite the folding mechanism, the thickness further reduces to a mere 5.4mm when it is unfolded.

The Huawei Mate X not only comes with an improved design over the Galaxy FOld but also comes with upgraded internals, it is said to come with the Huawei’s Baolong 5000 modem which is claimed to be the fastest 5G smartphone, the device is powered by their in-house chipset, Kirin 980 and has 8GB of RAM with 512GB internal storage. The battery on the Huawei Mate X is of 4,500mAh capacity and the device supports 55W fast charging. This can power the device from to 85-percent in just 30 minutes.

The camera setup on the Huawei Mate X includes a 40MP main sensor and a 16MP ultra-wide sensor along with an 8MP telephone lens. The device runs on a tweaked version of Android 9 Pie and has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
