Google Pixel vs. Pixel XL Comparison: What are the differences?

Google has finally launched the two flagship smartphones for the year, the Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL. These two devices are Google’s attempt at making something interesting and worthy of the price. While we already are seeing that some cues are taken from Apple for the Pixel devices, let’s see how do the Pixel and Pixel XL differ from each other.

The first thing to notice when we talk of the similarity with the iPhones, is the storage variants offered. There are two variants, i.e. 32GB and 128GB ones offered for both the devices, and that’s the same you would see for the latest iPhones.

Similarities between Pixel and Pixel XL devices

  • A 2.5 glass with the Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection is seen on both the phones
  • Both the phones have 4GB of RAM and storage variants of 32GB and 128GB
  • It is the Snapdragon 821; MSM8996 pro chipset powering the devices, and it is the quad-core Kryo one at 2.15 GHz
  • The rear camera of the Pixel phones is a 12.3MP IMX378 lens and it is supported by Phase Detection autofocus and Laser autofocus, and there is F/2.0 aperture
  • On the front, the phones have an 8MP IMX179 lens with the F/2.4 aperture
  • Both the devices support 4K video recording
  • The sensors seen on both the Pixel phones are the same, namely Proximity/ALS, Accelerometer / Gyrometer, Magnetometer, Pixel Imprint – Back-mounted fingerprint sensor for fast unlocking, Barometer, Hall sensor, Sensor Hub: CHRE V2 with GPS/Wi-Fi/BT, Advanced x-axis haptics for sharper / defined response

Differences between Pixel and Pixel XL devices

  • While the Google Pixel has a 5.0-inch display with the 1080p resolution, the Pixel XL is an option as a phablet having a 5.5-inch display and that is with the QHD resolution
  • The pixel density of the screen of Google Pixel is 441 PPI while that of the Google Pixel XL is 534 PPI
  • The dimensions of Google Pixel are 143.8 x 69.5 x 7.3 ~ 8.5 mm while the dimensions of Pixel XL are 154.7 x 75.7 x 7.3 ~ 8.5 mm
  • The battery capacity of the Google Pixel is 2770 mAh while the one of the Google Pixel XL is 3450 mAh
  • The standby time claimed for the Pixel phone is about 19 days on LTE, and it is about 23 days on LTE for the Google Pixel XL
  • The video playback time offered by the Pixel is about 13 hours while that by the Pixel XL is about 14 hours
