OnePlus 3 FAQ, Pros & Cons – Everything you wanted to know!

OnePlus 3 is finally here and it, surely, is a phone many of you have been waiting for since months, because the OnePlus 2 didn’t fare as good as you might have expected it to be. But, is the OnePlus 3 any good or is overly hyped and unable to stand tall even with the specs when compared to the other flagship phones of the year?

The OnePlus 3 is launched in India, already unlike how it took time for the OnePlus 2 to arrive after the launch and release in China. If you have any doubt about the device, here are some important FAQs for you to clear them. So, is the OnePlus 3 finally available without an invite?

Yes, pinch yourself. OnePlus has decided to not go with the invite system this time, so you don’t have to look around for the same. It will be a flash based sale and according to the company, there will be a good number of devices available to the customers to buy the phone.

How different is the build quality of OnePlus 3 from its predecessors?

OnePlus 3A very different one, and after the first two phones having the Sandstone Black and Silk White finish options over the plastic back, the use of metal for the exterior is a welcome change. The phone does look like one of the recent HTC devices but it is definitely better than the previous two devices from the company.

Is the fingerprint scanner still on the front of the phone?

Yes, the fingerprint scanner still stays on the front, the same place where it was on the OnePlus 2. We are hoping that the recognition is faster than what it was.

What is the processor powering the OnePlus 3?

It is the quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with a 2.2 GHz clock speed along with Adreno 530 GPU. To be fair, Qualcomm has done a very good job with its flagship chipset this year unlike how it was with Snapdragon 810. The Snapdragon 820 has been used on the phones like Samsung Galaxy S7, HTC 10, LG G5, and even LeEco Le Max2 and it is performing quite well on all of these phones.

What is changed with the rear camera on OnePlus 3?

OnePlus 3 has upgraded the camera from the OnePlus 2, as now there is a 16-megapixel camera situated on the back. The laser autofocus system is removed from the device.

It is the Sony IMX 298 sensor with 1.12 um pixel size and the device still supports 4K video recording and slow motion video recording.

What are the extra features for the camera of the device?

OnePlus ticks all the important marks in this one, as the rear camera now has Optical Image Stabilization, as well as Phase Detection Autofocus. The company has decided not to include the Laser autofocus this time, though it was in the OnePlus 2. There is support for RAW image as well.

What about the front camera of the phone?

The front camera on the device is a 8-megapixel shooter with the Sony IMX 179 with 1.4 um pixel size.

How good is it when compared to the OnePlus 2?

It does matter a bit. A 3000 mAh battery tends to perform lesser than a 3300 mAh one, but then, the new chipset, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 is said to be much more efficient in battery usage and thus there will be lesser drain. OnePlus has introduced a new Dark Mode that makes the battery drain even lesser when using that.

Does the phone get heated up on heavy usage?

We used the phone only for a day, and safe to say that it does get warm but does not heat as much as the OnePlus 2 did. Also, with the metal body you can expect it to heat at certain times but still, the phone does not heat excessively and the temperature is kept well under control.

Is there a fast charging technology on offer?

OnePlus hasn’t disclosed what type of technology it is, but the OnePlus 3 has a Dash Charge feature that is said to be charging the phone for about 60% in just a span of 30 minutes. This is similar to Qualcomm’s Quick Charge technology in terms of speed, but we are unsure if it is the same.

Fast charging usually heats up the phone a lot. Is that the case with OnePlus 3 too?

The OnePlus 3 sales page says this: Unlike more conventional high current protection, Dash Charge employs 5 custom safety measures to safeguard the adaptor, cable and the phone itself. Both the phone and the adapter come equipped with temperature regulation systems that prevent overheating. Additional failsafe measures ensure you can charge your OnePlus 3 as fast as possible without worry.

What are the sensors included in the OnePlus 3?

Hall Sensor, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Proximity, Ambient Light sensor and Electronic Compass are the sensors included, alongside the fingerprint sensor present on the home button.

Is there 4G LTE support given for the Indian bands?

Yes, the Indian variant does have the support for 4G LTE and there is support for all of the Indian 4G bands right now, except for the fact that OnePlus is not clear whether the phone supports Reliance Jio 4G‘s VoLTE HD calling.
