Xiaomi’s Mi Notebook Air laptop looks like the Macbook Air, sans Apple logo

Of course, with the obvious differences internally, and it wins Windows 10 OS. And in fact, there is no logo at all on the back.

After entering several categories in the electronics market and off it as well, Xiaomi, the Chinese electronics company has finally entered the laptops segment, with the announcement of the Mi Notebook Air laptop at an event today in China. Some of the details of the laptop were leaked earlier as well, with a box packaging showing off the device in full glory.

As expected, Xiaomi takes inspiration from Apple Macbook Air here but doesn’t leave a chance at taking a dig at the Cupertino giant’s laptop. According to the company, the Mi Notebook Air is 13% thinner and has 11% smaller body than the Macbook Air, although the screen size is exactly the same – 13.3-inch (another variant has 12.5-inch screen).

The Xiaomi Notebook Air 12 comes with a 13.3-inch Full HD display that is fully laminated to reduce glare, and there is an edge-to-edge glass protection, which is graded at a hardness level of 7 on Mohs scale. There is as variant with a 12.5-inch display as well. This is a full metal body laptop, and it has a full-sized keyboard with backlit keys.

There is Intel Core i5 processor (Dual-core, 6th gen., 2.7GHz max), NVIDIA GeForce 940MX graphics, 8GB DDR4 RAM, 256GB SSD storage, AKG (custom grade dual speakers) and Dolby digital surround sound output, and the laptop runs Windows 10. It is claimed to have 9.5 hours of battery life on regular usage. The battery is said to be charging from 0% to 50% in just 30 minutes. For the connectivity, there are two USB 3.0 ports, an HDMI port, a 3.5mm headset jack and a USB Type-C connector that will help charge the Mi Notebook Air. The laptop weighs 1.28kg.

  • 4GB RAM, 128GB SATA SSD storage, expandable SSD slot
  • 1.07 kg weight, 12.9mm thin

One can personalize the laptop with different skins that are available for the Mi Notebook Air. Xiaomi has also introduced a leather sleeve (RMB 299), PU leather sleeve (RMB 99), and Microfibre sleeve (RMB 69). The pricing of the Mi Notebook Air is set at RMB 4999 (Rs. 50500 approximately) for the 13.3-inch variant while the 12.5-inch one costs RMB 3499 (about Rs. 35285).

Xiaomi has also launched the Xiaomi Redmi Pro smartphone with the dual rear camera setup and an OLED display.
