BlackBerry KEY2 launched with 4.5-inch 3:2 display, QWERTY keyboard

TCL, a Blackberry brand licensee, has announced the launch of the successor to the last year’s KEYOne, the BlackBerry KEY2. The new smartphone comes with a similar rectangle slab with physical 4-row capacitive keyboard at the bottom. The company has also promised monthly security updates and a planned upgrade to Android P, as well.

The KEY2 sports 4.5-inch IPS LCD touchscreen display with a resolution of 1080×1620 pixels. The screen has a 3:2 aspect ratio and is protected under Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Powering the phone is the Snapdragon 660 chipset with Adreno 512 GPU. It comes with 6 GB RAM and 64 GB or 128 GB of internal storage. The phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo

BlackBerry KEY2 Cameras

As for the cameras, the KEY2 is the first BlackBerry to sport a dual rear camera setup, with dual 12 MP sensors. The primary camera comes with an f/1.8 aperture, a 1.55 um and Dual Pixel Phase Detection AutoFocus, while the secondary 12 MP camera has an f/2.6 aperture and a pixel size of 1.0 um. The rear cameras can record video up a resolution of 2160p at 30 fps.
To the front, the Blackberry KEY2 comes with an 8 MP selfie shooter with an f/2.0 aperture.

The phone is powered by 3500 mAh battery which can be topped up from 0-50%, in 36 mins, at QuickCharge 3.0 speeds. The phone comes with a USB Type-C port , as well as a 3.5 mm headphone jack. For connectivity, the phone comes with 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, 802.11 ac dual band Wi-Fi, A-GPS, GLONASS and BDS2.

The KEY2 comes with a front mounted fingerprint scanner underneath the space key. Talking about keys, the KEY2 comes with the classic BlackBerry QWERTY keyboard on the front.

Pricing and Availability of the BlackBerry KEY2

The BlackBerry KEY2 comes only in Black and Silver colors. The phone will go on sale this month globally at a starting price of USD 649 (EUR 649/ INR 43,558 approx).

  3. TCL needs to rethink about their pricing strategies with BB series.
    Otherwise all the BB phones will have the same fate as original BB series despite being with android and great looking specs this time.
