Google planning to design their own Android chipsets

Google is taking their Nexus devices seriously and after the decent response which they have got from the latest Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X the company is looking forward to designing their own chip-set.

Google has been in talks with some microchip makers to plan the development of chips based on Google’s own preferred designs and bring some uniformity in the high end segment of Android devices. Google is trying to take the competition to Apple phones in the high end market by designing their own chip sets.

According to some sources, the company has put forward some designs of the chips which the company is planning to co-develop which also includes the phone’s main processor. Apple is also using their own Ax chips which are designed by Apple but are being manufactured by companies like Samsung. With the designing of chip-sets, Google wants to bring uniformity in their high end devices to be able to implement new features.

Earlier this year Google had allegedly had the idea of designing its own chips to build an “enterprise connectivity device”, with companies like Samsung, Qualcomm and MediaTek being the major suppliers of chipsets for Android devices we can expect that Google is in talks with any one of these companies to manufacture their custom designed chipset.

With Google investing heavily in Augmented and Virtual reality in the recent times, we can expect that the new chipset will be designed keeping this in mind for use in future devices. Google is said to be looking to co-develop new chips with component makers in area like application processors and cameras.
