Oppo F9 Pro to sport a 6.3-inch display, Helio P60 chipset; Everything we know so far

Update: (August 7th, 2018)

A new leak has surfaced today, revealing almost every specification of the Oppo F9. Oppo has been releasing images of the smartphone every now and then. The teasers have captions mentioning about the F9 Pro, but there’s no word the F9. It could be that the F9 would be launching as F9 Pro in India, while the F9 itself is exclusive to Malaysia.

The new leak comes from My Smart Price, who has leaked the entire spec-sheet of the upcoming smartphone. Most the specs remain the same from the previous leak, with a 6.3-inch LTPS display and a resolution of 1080×2280 pixels. The screen is said to have a peak brightness of 450 nits. The processor is the MediaTek Helio P60 chipset with Mali-G72 MP3 GPU. While we were skeptic about the 4 GB RAM variant, the new leak has cleared the air, suggesting the phone indeed would have a 4 GB RAM variant along with a 6 GB RAM option. For the storage, the phone is supposed to come with 64 GB of internal storage. For the OS, the phone will run on Color OS 5.2 based on top of Android 8.1 Oreo.

As for the battery, the phone will have a smaller 3500 mAh battery, differing from the previous leak. The battery is said to have support for VOOC charging, which will provide up to 2 hours of talk-time with a 5-minute battery charge. The Dual SIM smartphone will have GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS, Beidou, Bluetooth 2.1 EDR as well as Bluetooth 4.2 LE.

Days after Oppo revealed the new design of the Oppo F9 smartphones on their official Indian and Malaysian twitter handles; a new leak has surfaced revealing most specs of the top end variant of the upcoming smartphone, the Oppo F9 Pro.

The leak from 91mobiles suggests the F9 Pro will sport a similar 6.3-inch display with a resolution of 1080×2280 pixels. Oppo has also managed to shrink down the notch, with the newer models sporting an Essential Phone sized notch, but has a waterdrop-like design. The display technology used is the same IPS LCD, as the last year’s model.

Underneath the chassis lies the MediaTek’s Helio P60 chipset paired with 6 GB of RAM, a setup similar to the F7’s. While the F7 came in both the 4 GB RAM and 6 GB RAM variants, it is still unknown whether the F9 Pro will come in a 4 GB RAM variant.

The Oppo F9 Pro is said to feature a dual camera setup, a first for the F-series. The dual cameras use two 16 MP units, which support Dual Pixel AutoFocus for faster focusing. To the front, will have a 25 MP selfie shooter similar to the outgoing model.

The battery sees a considerable improvement over the last year’s model. While the capacity itself remains unchanged with the same 3400 mAh unit underneath, its the inclusion of Oppo’s VOOC charging that makes a huge difference. The company claims the phone is expected to provide 2 hours of talk time with just 5 mins of charge.

The F9 Pro will come with 128 GB of internal storage with an option for expansion up to 256 GB via a microSD card. For connectivity, the phone will come with 4G VoLTE as well as Dual SIM slots. The phone is also expected to come with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and also have face unlock, for secured access.

Availability of Oppo F9 Pro

Oppo is expected to launch the F9 and F9 Pro soon, in the coming weeks. Although the pricing remains still unknown, it is safe to say that phone would be priced higher than the outgoing models, going by the company’s track record.
