Qualcomm has announced the launch of their latest 600-series SOC, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 Mobile Platform, today. The new processor uses Qualcomm’s custom Kryo cores that are similar to the ones found the Snapdragon 710 chipset.
Snapdragon 670 Specs
The Snapdragon 670 comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X12 LTE modem with peak download, and upload speeds up to 600 Mbps and 150 Mbps, respectively. For faster cellular speeds, the X12 LTE modem on the SD670 has support for LTE Advanced technologies like carrier aggregation. The SOC also has support for features such as VoWiFi, which is Voice over Wi-Fi with LTE call continuity, Dual SIM Dual-VoLTE (DSDV), allowing users to connect to two VoLTE networks, simultaneously.
The Snapdragon 670 is built on the 10 nm manufacturing process, based on the new Kryo 360 architecture that is built on the ARM-Cortex technology. The 670 uses Qualcomm’s custom Kryo 360 cores, each having a maximum clock speed of 2.0 GHz. The chipset comes with Adreno 615 GPU, which can support on-displays up to a maximum resolution of FHD+, i.e., 2560×1600 pixels, while the external display support reaches up to a maximum of 4K.
The new chipset from Qualcomm can benefit from either a single 25 MP camera or two 16 MP cameras each. The Qualcomm Spectra 250 ISP present on the Snapdragon 670 allows users to capture videos at 4K Ultra HD resolution at 30 fps and 1080 videos at 120 fps. It also has support for 4K Ultra HD videos playback and H.265 (HEVC), H.264 (AVC), VP8 & VP9 codec support. It also offers features such as Accelerated Electronic Image Stabilization & High-quality video capture with Motion Compensated Temporal Filtering.
Other features include a Qualcomm Hexagon 685 Vector processor which is used in conjunction with the Adreno 615 GPU to perform Artificial Intelligence Engine based operations. On the connectivity front, the Snapdragon 670 SOC comes with 802.11ac Dual-band Wi-Fi with 2×2 MU-MIMO, Bluetooth 5, GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, QZSS & SBAS support. The chipset also support’s Qualcomm’s latest Quick Charge 4+ technology.
Availability of Snapdragon 670
