Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 429, Snapdragon 439 mobile chipsets

Qualcomm has introduced two new budget-range SOCs in their 400-series, for 2018, today. The latest SOCs from the Qualcomm include the Snapdragon 429 and the Snapdragon 439. The new chipsets are engineered to provide higher performance, better battery life, impressive graphics, Artificial Intelligence and feature a more efficient design.

The Snapdragon 429 and the Snapdragon 439 SOCs are manufactured on the 12nm FinFET process. When compared with the SD425 and SD430, the SD429 and SD439 chipsets see an improvement in CPU performance and power efficiency up to 25%, respectively. The SD429 comes with Adreno 504 GPU which provides up to 50% improvement in graphics rendering. The Octa-core SD439, on the other hand, uses the Adreno 505 GPU, which offers up to 20% increase in graphics performance.

The chipsets also feature the X6 LTE modems for faster and seamless web experience. The two platforms also have support for Dual VoLTE, allowing users to run two VoLTE networks parallelly. The SOCs offer a peak download speed and peak upload speed of up to 150 Mbps and 75 Mbps, respectively.

The platforms also have support for taller screens and multiple cameras, which has become a trend these days. Both the SD429 and SD439 can support an 8+8 MP dual camera setup. The SD429 can support up to a 16 single camera, with an HD+ display, while the SD439 includes a 21 MP single camera and supports up to FHD+ displays. The devices are

Availability of the Snapdragon 429 and Snapdragon 439

Commercial devices based on the two SOCs, SD429 and SD439 are expected to launch in the second half of 2018.
