Honor 9i (2018) launched with notched 5.84-inch display, Kirin chipset

Honor, a sub-brand of Huawei has launched the Honor 9i (2018), in China. The phone comes as an upgrade to the Honor 9i that was launched last year. The phone comes with a modern notch on the front, a feature that we’ve been seeing in most of the smartphones these days.

The Honor 9i (2018) features a 5.84-inch FullHD+ IPS LCD screen, with a resolution of 1080×2280 pixels. The display has a 19:9 aspect ratio, thanks to the notch. Powering the phone is the homegrown HiSilicon Kirin 659 chipset from Huawei, with Mali-T830 MP2 GPU. It comes with 4 GB of RAM and either 64 GB or 128 GB of internal storage to choose from. The storage can further be expanded up to the 256 GB using a microSD card. The phone runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with Huawei’s EMUI 8.0 on top.

For the cameras, the 9i (2018) uses a dual camera setup on the back, of which the primary sensor is a 13 MP unit, while the secondary camera is a 2 MP unit. The primary 13 MP unit comes with Phase Detection AutoFocus and offers modes such as HDR, burst and timelapse. The secondary 2 MP unit is used for capturing the depth information for portrait shots.
To the front, the phone uses a 16 MP selfie camera that comes with beauty mode and is housed inside the notch. Both the rear and front cameras can record videos at a maximum resolution of 1080p.

9i (2018)

The 9i (2018) uses a 3000 mAh Li-Po battery underneath the glass back. The phone comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and also has support for face unlock, using the selfie camera.

For connectivity, the phone comes with 4G VoLTE, Dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi, GPS/A-GPS, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, a microUSB port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Pricing and Availability of Honor 9i (2018)

The Honor 9i (2018) 4 color variants – Charm Blue, Dream Purple, Green, and Midnight Black. The pricing of the phone starts from CNY 1,399 (INR 14,782) for the 64 GB storage variant, while the 128 GB retails for CNY 1699 (INR 17,952). The availability of the phone in other markets hasn’t been announced yet.
