LG V40 ThinQ announced with 6.4-inch QHD+ OLED display, Penta Cameras

After multiple leaks, LG has finally unveiled their latest flagship smartphone, the LG V40 ThinQ today in the US. The new smartphone comes with a Penta camera setup and QHD+ screen on the front. Apart from this, LG has also announced a Hybrid smartwatch, the LG Watch W7, that runs on Wear OS.

Display

Unlike the G7, which comes with an LCD panel, the LG V40 ThinQ sports an OLED display which spreads across 6.4-inches in size, with a QHD+ resolution and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The Full Vision display has support for HDR 10 playback, and it has a notch on the top similar to the G7.

SOC and Software

Powering the V40 ThinQ is the beefy Snapdragon 845 SOC with Adreno 630 GPU. It comes with 6 GB of RAM and only 64 GB of internal storage. There’s also room for storage expansion using the microSD card slot. As for the software itself, the phone ships with Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, with LG custom UI on top.

Cameras

As mentioned earlier, the LG V40 ThinQ comes with a Penta camera setup, with three cameras on the rear and two on the front. The triple camera set up on the back includes a regular, a super wide angle and a telephoto camera. The primary camera uses a 12 MP sensor which has large 1.4um pixels and a f/1.5 aperture and a 78° field of view. It also has Optical Image Stabilization. The camera primary camera has Dual Pixel autofocus which is first for an LG phone.

The secondary camera is a 16 MP super wide angle unit is borrowed from the G7 ThinQ, which has a f/1.9 lens on top and super-wide 107° field of view. The tertiary snapper is a new 12 MP telephoto camera with a narrower f/2.4 aperture as well as 45° field of view. It offers 3x optical zoom.

While only the main camera comes with Optical Stabilization, the other two including the primary camera, provide digital stabilization. All three cameras offer HDR video recording, while the maximum resolution at which the cameras record is 4K 60 fps. Also, the camera can record slo-mo 1080p videos at 240 fps.

LG has also included a new Triple Shot feature which simultaneously captures photos from the three rear-facing cameras, and creates a video or a gif from the three images. LG also provides an AI engine which recognizes people in your frame and helps you compose your shot.

While on the front, the dual cameras come with an 8 MP and 5 MP cameras, which Colors inside the notch. The 8 MP camera has a bright f/1.9 aperture and an 80° lens, while the 5 MP camera has a f/2.4 aperture and a 90° lens on top. The cameras offer studio lighting for portraits.

Battery & Connectivity
The LG V40 packs in a 3300 mAh battery which now supports fast wireless charging, a first for LG, as well the usual Quick Charge 3.0 charging through the wire. For connectivity, the phone comes with 4G VoLTE, Dual band 802.11 ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS, and GLONASS.

Audio and Ingress Protection
LG keeps their signature 32-bit QuadDAC support for the 3.5 mm headphone, both of which, are absent on most of the flagships launched this year. The earphones also come with DTS:X 3D surround sound support. It also has a single bottom firing Boombox speaker which uses an acoustic chamber to produce significantly loud sound.

Like other LG smartphones, the LG V40 too is IP68 Dust and Water resistant and is also MIL-STD-810G standard compliant for drops.

Pricing and Availability of LG V40 ThinQ

The LG V40 ThinQ comes in Aurora Black and Moroccan Blue colors. The Aurora Black variant has a polished finish, while the Moroccan Blue has a sandblasted look, thanks to the Silky Blast process that micro-etches the glass for a matte finish. The pricing of the LG V40 ThinQ in the US is as follows:
1. US Cellular – USD 900 (INR 66,280 approx.)
2. T-Mobile – USD 920 (INR 67,753 approx.)
3. Sprint – USD 960 (INR 70,699 approx.)
4. Verizon – USD 980 (INR 72,172 approx.)

Additionally, upon pre-ordering the LG V40 ThinQ, buyers get a DJI Osmo 2 as well as a 256 GB microSD card worth USD 258 (INR 19,003 approx.) combined, for free.

  1. Finally after so many leaks LG unveiled the LG V40 ThinQ in US market comes with flagship spec’s & most intresting Penta camera setup (3+2) which seems impressive as well apart US market prices looks little bit much which is over 70k.
