Panasonic Toughbook FZ-T1 rugged smartphone with barcode reader launched

Panasonic has launched their latest rugged handled called the Panasonic Toughbook FZ-T1. The FZ-T1 from the Japanese giant claims to be an ideal device for mobile workers in retail, manufacturing, warehouse, transportation & logistics and public safety sectors. The phone features a Snapdragon quad-core processor and has barcode readers.

The Panasonic Toughbook FZ-T1 sports a 5-inch HD Enterprise display with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels. The screen has an anti-reflective coating for better daylight visibility. The 10-point multi-touch capacitive touchscreen offers glove and rain modes. Powering the device is an entry-level Snapdragon 212 chipset with Adreno 304 GPU. It comes with 2 GB RAM and 16 GB of expandable storage. The phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo.

For the cameras, it comes with an 8 MP rear camera with an LED flash. There’s no front-facing camera on the device.

The Toughbook FZ-T1 comes with a 3200 mAh user replaceable battery with warm swap function. The company claims that the 3200 mAh battery can provide up to 12 hours of continuous data access time.

The smartphone is IP68 rated for Dust and Water resistance. For added durability, the FZ-T1 is MIL-STD-810G tested and can withstand drops from 1.5 meters. The phone has an operating temperature range of -10°C to 50°C. The added ruggedness comes at the cost of a thick and heavy device, with 13.7 mm thickness and 264 gms of weight.

It comes with two user-configurable scan buttons on either side of the phone. There’s an integrated 1D/2D barcode reader that would be useful for retail and transportation and logistics workers, for easier scanning of product barcodes.

For connectivity, the phone comes with 4G VoLTE (optional variant), Bluetooth 4.2 LE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and GPS/aGPS. Regarding security, the phone offers enterprise-level security and manageability (COMPASS). The phone is FIPS140-2 level-1 compliant with built-in ARM TrustZone.

Pricing and Availability of Panasonic Toughbook FZ-T1

The Panasonic Toughbook FZ-T1 comes in two variants, Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi+ LTE. The Wi-Fi only variant is priced a GBP 1,142 (USD 1516/ INR 1,03,259), while the LTE variant would cost you GBP 1,214 (USD 1612/ INR 1,09,770). The Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi+LTE variants will be available across Europe starting August 2018 and September 2018, respectively.
