Xiaomi Mi Max 3 with 6.9-inch display, Snapdragon 636 announced in China

After multiple leaks and teasing, Xiaomi has finally launched the third iteration of their phablet smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi Max 3, today, in China. The smartphone comes with a significantly slimmer bezel compared to its predecessors and also features the tall 18:9 aspect ratio that we’ve has now become a trend.

Display

The Xiaomi Mi Max 3 sports a 6.9-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 2160×1080 pixels. The display covers 84% of NTSC color gamut and has a contrast ratio of 1500:1. A 2.5D curved glass covers the 18:9 screen.

Processor, RAM & Storage

Powering the Mi Max 3 is the Snapdragon 636 chipset with Adreno 509 GPU. It comes with 4 GB of RAM with 64 GB of internal storage and 6 GB RAM with 128 GB of internal storage. The memory used is an LPDDR4X variant while the storage uses eMMC5.1 memory. The phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 9 on top.

Cameras

As for the cameras, the phone comes with a 12 MP rear camera which uses a Sony IMX363 sensor that sits behind a large f/1.9 lens and has a pixel size of 1.4um. The secondary sensor is a 5 MP sensor which captures the depth information for portrait shots.
To the front, there’s an 8 MP sensor with a pixel size of 1.12um, which has an aperture of f/2.0. An LED flash and a Soft LED flash works in conjunction with the rear and front cameras, respectively.

Miscellaneous

Xiaomi doesn’t want its users to compromise on the battery, and it is pretty evident with the gigantic 5500 mAh unit that the Mi Max 3 packs underneath. Thankfully the battery can be charged at Quick Charge 3.0 speeds through the USB Type-C port, for faster top-ups.Xiaomi Mi Max 3 ColorsAs for the connectivity, the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 has support for Dual 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5, Dual band 802.11 ac Wi-Fi, GPS and GLONASS. It also has a 3.5mm headphone jack. The phone weighs a hefty 221 gms and is 7.99 mm thick.

The Xiaomi Mi Max 3 comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner for security, alongside the usual face unlock. The phone also has an IR blaster which can be used for quick remote functionalities.

Pricing and Availability of Xiaomi Mi Max 3

The Xiaomi Mi Max comes in Dark Blue, Dream Gold, and Meteorite Black colors. The 4 GB RAM with 64 GB of internal storage variant goes for CNY 1699 (USD 252/ INR 17,335), while CNY 1999 (USD 296/ INR 20,396) is the asking price for the 6 GB RAM variant with 128 GB of internal storage. The phone will be available in China, starting from July 20.
