Of late, Chinese Smartphone & Electronics maker, Xiaomi, has been on a launch spree. Today, the company has launched two new entry-level smartphones, the Xiaomi Redmi 6 and the Xiaomi Redmi 6A, in China. The two phones feature a similar 18:9 displays with an HD+ resolution.
Xiaomi Redmi 6
The Xiaomi Redmi 6 sports a 5.45-inch HD+ IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 720x1440p. The 18:9 display is covered under 2.5D curved glass. Powering the phone is the latest Mediatek Helio P22 chipset with PowerVR Rogue GE8320 GPU. It comes in both 3 GB and 4 GB RAM variants with 32 GB or 64 GB of storage, respectively. The storage can be expanded up to 256 GB via a microSD card. The phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 9 on top.
For the cameras, the Redmi 6 features dual rear cameras with a 12 MP and 5 MP combination. The 12 MP camera comes with 1.25 um pixel size, while the 5 MP camera captures depth information for portraits. An AI assists the dual rear cameras, which offer modes such as AI portrait mode, AI beauty mode.
To the front, the phone greets you with a 5 MP selfie camera.
The Redmi 6 packs in 3000 mAh battery underneath. The phone has support for 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, Bluetooth 5, GPS. As for the sensors, the phone comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and an infrared sensor on top for quick remote functionalities. For face unlock, the selfie camera comes with AI face recognition.
Xiaomi Redmi 6A
The Redmi 6A sports a similar 5.45-inch HD+ IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 720x1440p. The screen has an 18:9 aspect ratio and is covered under 2.5D curved glass. A Quad-core MediaTek Helio A22 chipset powers the phone. It comes with 2 GB RAM and 128 GB storage with an option to expand it up to 128 GB via the microSD card slot. The phone runs on MIUI 9 based on top of Android 8.1 Oreo.
The Redmi 6A comes with a single 13 MP rear camera with an LED flash and to the front the front, the phone features a 5 MP front-facing camera for selfies.
The 6A packs in a similar 3000 mAh battery. The phone lacks a fingerprint scanner but does come AI powered Face Unlock. The phone has support for 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, GPS with GLONASS. It weighs 145 gms and is 8.3 mm thick.
Pricing and Availability of Xiaomi Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A
The Xiaomi Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A come in four colors – Blue, Gold, Grey and Rose Gold. The pricing of the Redmi 6 starts at CNY 799 (USD 124/ INR 8,411 approx) for 3 GB RAM/ 32 GB internal storage, and CNY 999 (USD 155/ INR 10,516 approx) for the 4 GB RAM/ 64 GB storage variant. While the Redmi 6A with the 2 GB RAM and 16 GB storage would cost you CNY 599 (USD 93/ INR 6,305 approx). Both the phones will be available in China, starting June 15th.
