Sandisk showcases 1TB USB Type-C flash drive at CES 2018

Western Digital has had a flurry of announcements at the CES 2018 where one of the highlights was the USB Type-C flash drive that was showcased under the Sandisk brand. Claiming that to be the world’s smallest 1TB USB flash drive, Sandisk still has only a prototype of it to show off, but that is at least a thing for real.

1TB is not the highest capacity you are looking at because Kingston had already outed a 2TB 2TB Kingston DataTraveler Ultimate GT USB flash drive a few days back. It is worth noting that the size of this 1TB flash drive from Sandisk is much smaller in size and that also looks very different from the zinc-alloy casing done by Kingston. Having the USB Type-C connectivity is going to be another advantage for the current-day devices, not just the Android smartphones but also with the recent MacBooks having only the Type-C ports.

The only thing you shouldn’t be expecting from this flash drive is it to be any affordable, because for that capacity, even a SSD drive costs about $350-400, and the compactness of these flash drives make them costlier, which has been the case always. For now, there is no pricing or availability details being shared since we are looking at only a prototype, but the making of a compact USB flash drive opens up a new space for more such products to come in, and thus the pricing should also be competitive.
