Honor 8X vs. Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro Comparison – Which is a better phone?

Honor India’s recent mid-range lineup has been the most impressive, not only with the pricing but also with what they offer in every important aspect of the phones, including the design, cameras, and the processor powering them. The recent mid-range killer Honor 8X is one such example, but well does it stand when compared to the popular Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro? Let’s check it out in the comparison below.

Which looks better?

We’d of course, as always, begin with the design. The undisputed champion, here, again would be Honor and its phones in every lineup. There’s no exception with the Honor 8X as well since the phone has a brilliant design and compared to that, the Redmi Note 6 Pro is just plain with no uniqueness. What sets the Honor 8X apart is that glass back that also has a demarcated area that horizontally projects the branding of the company and the camera setup, with a pattern that reflects light. Keep the Honor 8X beside to it and you’ll see how easily the Honor 8X is clearly more attractive, and add to that the comfort and ease the phone gives while holding it with that smooth back.

Performance – Which is more powerful?

Honor has chosen the Kirin 710 processor that is well ahead of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 that is powering the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro, which sadly retains the chipset from the previous generation. The Kirin 710 has four performance-based cores clocking at 2.2 GHz and while compared to that, the Snapdragon 636 has all the eight cores clocking at 1.8GHz, which makes it all different with the final performance delivered in intensive tasks including gaming. Whenever there’s no need of such high speeds, the Kirin 710 takes advantage of the four power-efficient cores and saves the battery, which in turn is an advantage for the users who don’t always would want to play games or do things that are going to put a load on the processor.

For the tech heads, it is a 12nm manufacturing process for the Kirin 710 when compared to the 14nm process used for the Snapdragon 636, and you know what’s going to be the better one.

The better capturer

Here’s where it gets interesting. The Xiaomi Redmi Note lineup was regarded as one of the decent phones when it comes to the camera performance, but Honor always has been the best competition in this aspect. With the Honor 8X, the company has decided to do it better with a large sensor that offers a big aperture and complementing it with a lens that can take in a lot of details, so there’s a 20-megapixel primary camera with the F/1.8 camera for the superior low-light performance, and when compared to that, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro retains the 12-megapixel primary camera with the F/1.9 aperture.

The AI support offered by the Kirin 710 makes sure the scene is well recognized and the colors are optimized based on that so that the user doesn’t always have to spend time optimizing the settings.

With both of them offering a good portrait mode and captures, how they differ is with the video recording. A 1080p video recording is very much possible but there’s 60fps recording possible for a better quality on the Honor 8X, and the Redmi Note 6 Pro has it restricted at 30fps.

Even on the front, both the phones offer a F/1.8 camera, though the resolution is higher on the Redmi Note 6 Pro, we saw both the phones to be equal in performance for the selfies and the portrait selfies, as the contrast has been well managed based on the background area brightness.

Which phone lasts longer?

Not always do we have to look at the battery specs, because it was surprisingly a very good battery life offered on the Honor 8X. The phone has a 3750 mAh battery when compared to the 4000 mAh battery on the Redmi Note 6 Pro, but always, for about a month’s usage, we saw the phone to be offering a better battery life. The device lasted for hours more than the latter, and the screen-on time offered is also better, thanks to how the Kirin 710 was optimized along with the EMUI to do the best with the battery life.

Add to these, the Honor 8X has a dedicated MicroSD card slot for the storage expansion, while the Redmi Note 6 Pro would be able to do that only through the second SIM slot, which is a hybrid one.

Honor 8X vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro Design

There are always some specific reasons for one phone to be better than the other and you would end up choosing the one based on your requirements, but we’d always choose a phone that offers a better battery life, looks better, and is going to be a better performer in the longer run. Honor 8X delivered the best with the performance, the battery life, and even with that gorgeous design, it is the clear winner over the Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro.

The Honor 8X is available on Amazon India with three variants, 4GB + 64GB, 6GB + 64GB, and 6GB + 128GB RAM and storage options respectively.
