Top phones expected to launch at MWC 2018 in Barcelona

The Mobile World Congress is one of the largest events for the smartphone brands as they launch the major smartphones in the event, and they also showcase the technologies that are to expect throughout the year. We’ve seen new phones launching every month, but with MWC happening in February, we expect to see several new phones being launched in February, especially the flagships of each company. The MWC is happening between 26th of Feb and 1st of March.

This year, like every other year, we expect to see some of the latest flagships being launched by companies like Samsung, Huawei, and Sony. In this article, we will talk about some of the top launches of Feb 2018

Samsung Galaxy S9 – Launch confirmed for Feb 25th

Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus

The Samsung Galaxy S8 was announced with a bang about a year ago and came with the new 18.5:9 aspect ratio Infinity Display which slowly trickled down to more cheaper smartphones. The new Samsung Galaxy S9 is expected to be announced in February this year, just before the MWC and is expected to go on sale in March this year. The device will likely be powered by either Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 or Exynos 9810 chipset and have 6GB of RAM. The device is also expected to have the dual-lens camera setup similar to what we saw in the Note 8. Most of the design elements will be retained from the predecessor and we only expect internal changes in the device.

Huawei P11?

The Huawei P11 or the P20 is tipped to be launched in MWC this year and it will be the successor to their current flagship, the P10. The device will be powered by their in-house Kirin 970 Chipset which is supposed to offer performance benefits over the predecessor and the current generation Qualcomm Chipsets. Going by the figures we can expect about 25% improvement in terms of performance and about 50% improvement in terms of energy efficiency in the new chipset. While the rumors suggest that the company might go on the lines of Honor and ditch the 3.5mm Headphone jack as the company did with their flagship.

LG G7

The LG G7 was first rumored to be released early in January in CES 2018, however, this didn’t happen and we’re hoping to see the G7 be released on the 25th of February right in time for MWC 2018. The company is said to be working with Qualcomm and the G7 will likely be one of the first to showcase the Snapdragon 845 mobile platform. The other specifications are expected to be similar to the previous G6 and the device will be continuing with the 18:9 Full Vision display that they experiment with the LG G6. The device is again expected to follow the similar design trend of the LG G6.

Nokia 9

The First Nokia Android phone was announced about a year ago and the final flagship from the company which is the Nokia 9 is yet to be announced. The Nokia 9 is also expected to launch on Sunday, 25th of February at MWC. The device is expected to come with a 5.7-inch 18:9 aspect ratio display and an additional 2GB of RAM over the Nokia 8. The Nokia 9 is also expected to come with a dual camera setup and have an RGB and a monochrome sensor for depth sensing. The Nokia 9 is also expected to come with Ozo audio recording which enables 360 degrees recording that was previously found on the Nokia 8. The device is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 Chipset and has 6GB of RAM along with 64GB Internal Storage.

Sony Xperia XZ1 Premium

The Sony Xperia XZ1 Premium is rumored to be launched in the MWC on Feb 25th and the device is expected to come with a 5.7-inch 18:9 aspect ratio display with an almost bezel-less design. The PHABLET will likely be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and have 4 or 6GB of RAM along with 64 or 128GB of Internal Storage. The name of the device is not yet confirmed and might be named either Sony Xperia XZ1 Premium or Sony Xperia XZ Pro, but a phablet flagship from Sony is certainly on its way to the MWC.

These are the major phones to be expected at MWC 2018, but it shouldn’t be limited to only this. We might see more phones coming out at the event.
