Microsoft just unveiled the Surface Book i7, a 2-in-1 notebook with flagship specifications. The newly launched convertible houses the powerful Intel Core i7 processor paired with a two times powerful GPU. The Microsoft Surface Book i7 will offer serious competition to Apple MacBook. The former is claimed to be two times more powerful than the latter and pack in an exceptional 16 hours of battery life. The brand new laptop comes with a starting price of $2,399 (Rs. 1,60,300 approx.).
The latest convertible notebook sports a premium metallic aluminium construction with a magnesium chassis. At the back, there is a rear autofocus camera sans a LED flash. Microsoft claims that the Surface Book i7 possesses double the processing power of the old MacBook Pro 2013. The newest laptop comes with a unique hinge build on the detachable keyboard and trackpad unit.
A 13.5-inch PixelSense touchscreen sits on top of the brand new notebook. The display boasts a resolution of 3000 x 2000 pixels which results in 277 PPI. This is a 3:2 screen and supports up to 10 multi-touch points. Internally, the latest 6th generation Intel Core i7 (Skylake) powers up the new 2-in-1 laptop. A NVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M GPU with 2 GB GDDR5 memory handles the graphics performance. An additional fan is built into the latest machine to shred off the excess heat generated by the upgraded hardware.
Speaking about memory, the Surface Book i7 comes with either 8 GB or 16 GB of RAM. For storage, you may choose between a 256 GB or 512 GB or 1 TB SSD. The brand new convertible laptop comes preloaded with Windows 10 Pro operating system along with a 30-day trial pack of Microsoft Office. There is a TPM (Trusted Platform Module) chip for enhanced security.
The newest Surface Book features rich connectivity options with dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, two USB 3.0 port, SD card reader, mini display port and last but not the least, 3.5 mm headset jack. Unfortunately, there are no Type-C USB ports in the latest laptop.
Coming to the camera, an 8 MP unit lies at the back, while a 5 MP selfie unit sits at the front. The former is an autofocus snapper, and the latter is a fixed focus one. You can record Full HD 1080p videos through both the shooters. There are dual microphones for stereo audio recording. Dolby-powered stereo speakers sharpen the sound output.
Microsoft offers a free Surface Pen packed along with the Surface Book i7. The company has ramped up battery backup of the new laptop. It can play 16 hours of videos non-stop on a single charge. The 2-in-1 notebook comes only in Silver colour variant. There are three different models in terms of memory which are 8 GB RAM / 256 GB SSD, 16 GB / 215 GB and 16 GB / 1TB. They cost $2,399 (Rs. 1,60, 499 approx.), $2,799 (Rs. 1,87,200 approx.) and $3,299 (Rs. 2,20,600 approx.) respectively.
Microsoft Surface Book i7 is already available for pre-order and shall release on November 11, 2016. The notebook will compete with Apple’s MacBook line-up which is clearly showing its age. However, the Cupertino giant is all set to unveil the next generation MacBook Pro 2016 or a new MacBook Air on October 27, 2016.
