Microsoft has finally announced the launch of Surface Laptop’s successor, the Microsoft Surface Laptop 2, today in the US. Unlike the 2-in-1 Surface Pro, the Surface Laptop 2 is a full-fledged laptop from Microsoft. Apart from this, Microsoft has also announced the Microsoft Surface Pro 6, Surface Studio 2 and new Surface Headphones.
Surface Laptop 2
The Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 comes with a 13.5″ PixelSense touchscreen display with a resolution of 2256×1504 pixels. The 10 point multi-touch display is covered under Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 protection and has a 3:2 aspect ratio that we have seen in other Surface devices. The screen has support for input using the Surface Pen. Powering the new Surface Laptop 2 is the Intel 8th Gen Quad-core processors, with either an i5 or i7 to choose from.
The integrated UHD Graphics 620 handles all the GPU intensive tasks. The laptops can be configured with up to 16 GB of RAM and a solid state drive of up to 1 TB in size. The battery underneath is claimed to offer up to 14.5 hours of local video playback time.
As for the connectivity, the Surface Laptop 2 includes a full-size USB 3.0 port, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a mini display port, a Surface connector port, and a microSDXC card reader. The wireless connectivity options on the device include Bluetooth 4.1 and 802.11 ac Wi-Fi. Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 comes with a 720p HD front-facing camera which also has support for Windows Hello face authentication.
For audio, the Surface Laptop 2 comes with Omnisonic speakers with Dolby Audio Premium. The exterior of the laptop is made out of Aluminum with an Alcantara finished keyboard. The laptop is 14.5 mm in thickness and weighs up to a maximum of 1,283 gms.
Pricing and Availability of Microsoft Surface Laptop 2
The Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 comes in Burgundy, Cobalt Blue, Platinum, and a new Black colors. The Surface Laptop 2’s pricing starts from USD 999 (INR 73,171 approx.) for the base variant and goes all the way up to USD 2699 (INR 1,97,688 approx.). The Surface Laptop 2 is available for pre-order starting today, while the shipments start from October 16, 2018.
Unlike 2 in 1 this time Microsoft go with full fledged 2 with Surface Laptop 2 powered by latest 8th generation intel processors along with impressive spec’s like dolby audio premium, 720p front cam etc while price tag of over 70k feels too much.
