Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 with 5.99-inch 18:9 display launched in India

Xiaomi has been teasing the Redmi 5 series for some time now and we finally have details on the phones, but it isn’t the Redmi 5 but the Note series that has got official, with two phones, the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro. The Redmi Note 5 is the lower priced model with minor changes in terms of specifications and features.

The Redmi Note 5 comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset and has the Adreno 506 GPU. The device comes in two variants in terms of storage and RAM, the 3GB RAM variant comes with 32GB internal storage while the 4GB RAM variant comes with 64GB internal storage. The display on the device is a 5.99-inch FullHD+ display with a resolution of 2160×1080. This is the first budget device from the company in India with an 18:9 aspect ratio display and the phone also has on-screen buttons to make use of the extended screen. The color to contrast ratio on the device is 1000:1 and the max brightness goes up to 450nits.

The primary camera on the Redmi Note 5 is a single camera setup at 12-megapixels. The 1.25um pixel size helps the camera capture the most amount of light while technologies like PDAF help the camera focus faster. The aperture on this primary lens is F/2.2 and the secondary camera on the front is a 5MP sensor with LED Selfie Light and also supports FullHD video recording.

The device comes with a hybrid SIM card slot and lets you choose between a secondary SIM card or a MicroSD card. The Redmi Note 5 comes with a 4000mAh battery which alongside the efficiency of the MIUI and the Snapdragon 625 chipset allows for up to 14 hours of video playback on the device. The fingerprint sensor is on the rear of the device and it still has the same Micro USB charging port that supports 5V/2A input.The Redmi Note 5 runs on Android Nougat based MIUI 9 and the device will be available in three colors – Black, Rose Gold, and Blue.

The device is going to be available starting at a price of Rs 9,999 and will be available from February 22 onwards. The variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage is priced at Rs. 11999. There is a free case being given with the purchase of the device.
