ASUS India has launched its latest flagship smartphone, the ASUS ZenFone 5Z, today, in India. The new entrant from ASUS which was first showcased at the Mobile World Congress 2018, in Barcelona, comes with Snapdragon chipset and a notched-display.
The ASUS ZenFone 5Z sports a 6.2-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 2246×1080 pixels. The screen has a maximum brightness of 500 nits and covers 95.4% NTSC color gamut. It also supports DCI-P3 color space and has 1500:1 contrast ratio. A 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass protects the 18.7:9 display.
Processor, RAM, and Storage
The beefy Snapdragon 845 SOC from Qualcomm provides all the processing power for the ZenFone 5Z, while the Adreno 630 handles all the graphics activities thrown at it, with ease. It comes with either 6 GB or 8 GB RAM and 64 GB, 128 GB or 256 GB storage variants to choose from. The storage can be expanded using a MicroSD card. The phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with Zen UI on top.
The cameras are where ASUS put all its efforts in. All the cameras utilize the Artificial Intelligence, a feature which has become a norm in flagships these days. The ZenFone 5Z comes with a dual-camera setup on the back, with a 12 MP + 8 MP combination. The 12 MP primary camera uses a Sony IMX363 sensor, which has a sensor size of 1/2.55″, has a pixel size of 1.12 um, and to top it all of, it has Phase Detection AutoFocus. The 12 MP sensor sits behind a 24mm lens with an aperture of f/1.8.
The secondary 8 MP wide-angle camera uses an OmniVision OV8856 sensor that has a 1/4″ sensor size, with a pixel size of 1.12um which uses a 12mm wide-angle lens with a f/2.0 aperture. The camera has a 120° wide Field of View. It comes with EIS to help stabilize your videos, while a dual-tone LED flash assists the rear cameras in low-lighting conditions.
For Selfies, the ZenFone 5Z utilizes the same Omnivision 8 MP shooter like the one found on the back, but has a narrower 83° Field of View. It has a sensor size of 1/4″, a pixel size of 1.12um all of which sits behind a 24mm lens that has a f/2.0 aperture. The front-facing camera too records electronically stabilized videos, but the resolution maxes out at 1080p.
Battery and Security
The ZenFone 5Z uses a 3300 mAh battery with ASUS Boostmaster technology which supports both Fast charging and AI charging. For security, the phone comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner and face-unlock, as well.
Audiophiles can rejoice as ASUS has got you covered with the Hi-res audio playback. The ZenFone 5Z comes with dual speakers which are powered by an NXP 9874 Smart AMP. It also allows Hi-Res 192 kHz/ 24-bit audio playback with DTS Headphone: X support for 7.1 channel surround sound through the headphones.
As for connectivity, the 5Z has support for 4G VoLTE, Dual-Band 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and GLONASS. It also comes with a USB Type-C 2.0 port and a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Pricing and Availability of the ASUS ZenFone 5Z
The ASUS ZenFone 5Z comes in Meteor Silver and Midnight Blue colors. The pricing of the phone starts from INR 29,999 for the 6 GB RAM 64 GB storage variant, INR 32,999 for the 8 GB RAM 128 GB storage and the 8 GB RAM with 256 GB storage comes with a price tag of INR 36,999. The ZenFone 5Z will be sold exclusively on Flipkart.
