Xiaomi Redmi 5 launched in India with 5.7-inch HD+ display, Snapdragon 450

Xiaomi has just announced their ultra-budget smartphone, the Redmi 5 which will be sold exclusively on Amazon India and Mi India website. The device had previously been teased for quite some time now and the official Xiaomi website also had a counter for the live event that was scheduled for the launch. While the company hadn’t announced any details about the device itself, much of it was evident as the device already been launched internationally.

The Redmi 5 comes with a 5.7-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 1440 x 720 which brings the aspect ratio to 18:9 and the pixel density to 282ppi. The device is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 Processor and comes in difference RAM variants having either 2GB, 3GB or 4GB RAM. The internal memory is either 16GB or 32GB based on the variant of choice.

Talking about the optics on the Redmi 5, it comes with a 12MP rear camera having a f/2.2 aperture. The rear camera comes with a LED flash and also supports PDAF for faster and more accurate focus lock. The front camera is a 5MP camera with a soft-light flash that adds light to the images in a very subtle manner without cause light seizures to the eye. The front camera also supports the Beautify 3.0 from the manufacturer and the whole device is powered by a 3,300 mAh battery to juice it.

The device is below the Redmi Note 5 that was recently launched in India alongside the Redmi Note 5 Pro, the Redmi 5 is going to retail for Rs 7999 for the 2GB variant, Rs 8999 for the 3GB variant and Rs 10999 for the 4GB RAM variant (we are yet to know about the availability of this variant in India). The device will be available for purchase on the Amazon India website as well as other official channels of Xiaomi in India. We will update this news with the sale dates as soon as we get them.
