Alongside the Xiaomi Mi 8 and Mi 8 Explorer Edition, Xiaomi has also launched a new smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE. The Mi 8 SE is the first smartphone to be powered by the snapdragon 710 chipset that was recently launched. Although the phone features a notch similar to the Mi 8, it doesn’t pack any fancy tech as its bigger brother. The phone is basically a trimmed down variant of the flagship, Mi 8.


The Xiaomi Mi 8 SE features a 5.88″ Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080×2244. The 18.7:9 display has a screen-to-body ratio of 86.5% with a notch on the top. The screen has a maximum brightness of 600 nits and support for DCi-P3 color space.

Processor, RAM & Storage

The Mi 8 SE is powered by the flashy new Snapdragon 710 chipset, while the graphics is handled by 616 GPU. The new SOC is built on 10nm manufacturing process that comes with Kryo 360 cores which are clocked at 2.2 GHz. The 710 from Qualcomm focuses on Augumented Reality and Artificial Intelligence. It comes with either 4 GB or 6 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64 GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage. The phone runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 9 on top.

The Mi 8 SE comes with a 12 MP primary camera with an f/1.9 aperture and 1.4um pixel size and 5 MP secondary depth sensing camera, which has 1.12um pixel size and f/2.0 aperture.
To the front, we are greeted by a 20 MP selfie camera with a pixel size of 2um, which promises better selfies in low light. The cameras offer AI beautification, AI scene recognition and Bokeh features.


The Mi 8 SE is powered by a 3120 mAh battery which supports 18W Quick Charge 3.0. The phone supports Dual 4G VoLTE, Dual band Wi-Fi 802.11ac with 2×2 MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0 LE, GPS+GLONASS. The phone comes with a USB Type C port for connectivity, but omits the 3.5 mm headphone jack. For security, the phone comes with a rear mounted fingerprint scanner.

Pricing and Availability of Xiaomi Mi 8 SE

The Xiaomi Mi 8 SE comes in Black, Red, Blue and Rose Gold colors. The phone is priced at CNY 1,799 (USD 281/ INR 18,913) for the 4 GB RAM, 64 GB internal storage variant, while the 6 GB RAM, 64 GB storage variant would cost you CNY 1,999 (USD 312/ INR 21,016). The Mi 8 SE will be available in China starting from June 8th.
