BSNL to offer Free voice calls from January 2017: Reliance Jio effect?

Reliance Jio with its launch made sure that it is offering something better at a lower price compared to other networks. With Jio’s super fast growth, other networks like Airtel, Idea have started slashing the prices and introducing new plans to lure in the audience. One knockout feature of the Reliance Jio is the free lifetime voice calls which is impossible for other networks to offer.

Having said that, BSNL has been trying to compete with Jio right from day-1 by launching cheaper data packs, unlimited plans and what not. in their latest move, BSNL has mentioned that it will be offering voice free tariff plans from January which Reliance Jio users are enjoying currently under the welcome offer. Earlier this month, BSNL managing director, Anupam Shrivastava quoted that they are planning to offer free voice calls if everything goes well Jio. And in an interview with Times of India, he finally confirmed the news.

The Jio tariffs are cheap, they haven’t gone live yet thanks to the Welcome offer, here are the BSNL plans that will roll out once the Jio tariffs are live.

BSNL Free Calls

Free Voice Calls: Jio and BSNL are two very different networks, as Jio is entirely 4G ready and had adopted the VoLTE for free voice calls, its BSNL that still needs to migrate to 4G completely in various cities and there is no clear information on how BSNL will offer the free voice calls service.

No VoLTE: Like you all know, Jio is all about 4G VoLTE for calls which is not the case with BSNL, instead the company might offer regular voice calls which is a pretty big deal. So the company might offer the free voice calls services to 2G and 3G users as well as they can’t migrate the infrastructure support VoLTE on the go.

For Broadband Users Also: BSNL director, Shrivastava also mentioned that this offer would also be avialable for broadband users as most of the users will be spending their time at home.

More Competitive Pricing: BSNL is aiming to be more competitive compared to other networks as they might price the zero-voice tariff plans starting from Rs. 2-4. BSNL might roll out these plans starting from January which is when Reliance Jio plans go live. Stay tuned for more details.
