Toyota Yaris expected to launch at Auto Expo 2018

The Auto Expo 2018 is around the corner and every car manufacturer is going gaga over it, trying to showcase the latest and the greatest that they’ve got. We’ve several announcements ahead of the Auto Expo which helped us prepare ourselves for what to expect at the Auto Expo 2018, One of the latest teasers that got our attention is from Toyota. Toyota recently released a poster of what looks like an Asian Spec Toyota Yaris which is expected to be unveiled in Auto Expo 2018.

We had already heard of Toyota planning to enter the class-c premium segment in India and our initial thoughts were on the Toyota Vios sedan. The Toyota Yaris is based on the Vios platform and will be rivaling the Honda City in the Indian market. The Yaris has a much sharper design language and this is in sync with the current lineup of Corolla and Camry, and with the sleep headlights, a wide grill and a streamlined roof, the car looks very 2018.

The cabin is very spacious and the dashboard includes an analog clock and a 4.2-inch display for vital stats. There is also a 7-inch touchscreen system for entertainment. It is still unclear if the company will go with a sporty all-black layout or will choose the more popular black on beige color setup for the Indian variant of Yaris.

Specifications

Coming to the specifications, the car is expected to come in a 1.5L Petrol and a 1.4L diesel variant. The petrol variant of Toyota Yaris is based on the 2NR-FE engine which is previously found on the Etios Sedan with slight modification with respect to the valve timing on the intake and exhaust. The peak power of this sedan will be 107PS and will have a maximum torque of 140Nm. The diesel variant will only be launched in India and will be based on the 1.4L D-4D that was previously seen in the Corolla and is expected to have a peak power of 90PS with 205Nm peak torque.

The car is expected to be announced at the Auto Expo and will be a mid-tier between the Etios Sedan and the Corolla, putting it in competition for the Hyundai Verna, Honda City, and the Nexa Ciaz.
