AMD has had a great year with the launch new CPU and GPU lineup, in 2017. AMD plans on continuing its streak with the launch of the 2nd Generation Ryzen CPUs aimed at consumer market. There are four new 2nd Gen AMD Ryzen processors that have been refreshed in the Ryzen 7 and Ryzen 5 lineup. All the new CPU’s use the Zen+ architecture based on the 12nm manufacturing process.

The new Ryzen 7 2700X is an 8 core 16 threads CPU with a base clock of 3.7 GHz and a boost clock of 4.3 GHz. The 2700X comes with 20 MB “Smart Prefetch Cache” (of which L2 cache is 4 MB and the L3 cache is 16 MB) and has a 105W TDP (Thermal Design Power). It comes with a Wraith Prism LED cooler included in the box.

The Ryzen 7 2700 on the other hand has the same amount of 8 cores and 16 thread count as the 2700X, but has a lower base and boost clock speed, with 3.2 GHz & 4.1 GHz respectively. It has the same amount of caches as the 2700 Thanks to the lower clock speeds; the 2700 has a 65 W TDP and comes with a Wraith Spire (LED) cooler in the box.

There’s also 2 new Ryzen 5 CPUs that were launched alongside the Ryzen 7 CPUs. The Ryzen 5 2600X has 6 cores and 12 threads with 19MB Smart Prefetch Cache. The processor has a 95 W TDP and can be cooled by the Wraith Spire cooler, included in the box.

The Ryzen 5 2600 is a 6 core 12 thread CPU with a base clock and boost clock frequencies of 3.4 GHz & 3.9 GHz. The 2600 has a combined cache of 19 MB and has a lower TDP value of 65 W. The CPU comes with a Wraith Stealth cooler.

Additionally AMD has also launched their new X470 chipset motherboards which use the same AM4 mount as the previous gen X370 boards. Existing 300 series boards will be compatible with the new CPUs with a simple firmware upgrade in the BIOS. Top manufacturers including ASRock, ASUS, Gigabyte and MSI will soon announce the new motherboards with the x470 chipset.
