Gionee Elife E8 FAQ, Tips and Tricks

Gionee Elife E8 is a large phablet from Gionee, having a 6-inch Quad HD display and a Mediatek Helio X10 processor. It also features a fingerprint scanner for the additional security and unlocking the phone in an easier way.

Since we are talking of a high-end phone with a premium price, there will be several things that you might want to know about the Elife E8. Read below for the important FAQs, and the tips and tricks.

How to increase battery life by using Power saving mode?

The Gionee Elife E8 comes with the power manager section under battery settings, which can be used to change the way phone performs and carry out tasks on low battery, and thus, there are options of Normal mode and Extreme mode.

In the Normal mode, user can choose to see a dark mode, and the phone automatically changes a lot of connectivity options, turn data and synchronization off, and a lot more. In the Extreme mode, it is a totally different interface you are introduced to. Only phone, contacts, messaging and clock can be used in Extreme mode, and it is a minimalistic desktop with only a dark theme shown.

If the Normal mode is able to increase the usage time by 20 hours, it would be about 180 hours that the Extreme mode would be able to squeeze when turned on.

To do that, go to Settings > Power management > Power manager, and you will see two options there.

How to turn on / off LED notification lights?

The LED notification light on Gionee Elife E8 helps in understanding about the charging status, low battery warning, and also when any notifications arrive. To turn the LED notifications on or off, go to Settings > Advanced Settings > LED light, and here you see three different options – “Low power remind”, “Charging remind”, and “Notification remind”. You can individually toggle the setting for each.

What are the smart gestures included in the Gionee Elife E8?

Following are the smart gestures included in the device.

  • Smart Dial: Pickup the phone close to the ear and contact number will be dialled automatically, either from message, contacts or call page
  • Smart Answer: Pickup the phone close to the ear and the call will be answered automatically
  • Pause alarm: Flip back the phone to pause an on-going alarm
  • Black screen gestures: Draw battery to access menu quickly while the phone is in sleep mode
  • Smart vibration remind: Phone vibrates to remind the unread message or missed call notification in sleep mode
  • Smart bright screen: When front camera detects you are viewing screen, the screen will be maintained automatically
  • Double click wake: The double-tap-to-wave feature that is very useful to activate the screen by double tapping on it when on sleep mode

What are the touchless wake-up features in Gionee Elife E8?

  • Air gesture: Wake up the phone by waving the palm over the phone in sleep mode
  • Touchless unlock: Unlock the display by just waving the palm over the phone
  • Touchless desktop control: Wave the palm over the phone to slide the desktop, slide to unlock and view wallpaper
  • Touchless image browsing: Wave the palm to switch to next when viewing image
  • Touchless video control: Playing video, pause/play and control volume by waving palm

Can I install 3rd party apps through APK on Elife E8?

Yes, the external apps can be installed on the Gionee Elife E8, but you need to set the device to allow that. For that, go to Settings > Security > Device Administration and here, check the “unknown sources” option. Once you enable that, you can transfer any APK file and install that app.

What are the pre-installed apps available on Gionee Elife E8?

The pre-installed apps in the phone include Theme Park, Chameleon, Amigo paper, System update, Mobile security, Compass, WPS Office, DU Battery Saver, Gionee Xender, Touchpal 2015, DU Speed Booster, GameZone, and Games including Spider-Man: Ultimate power, Bubble Bash Mania, Asphalt Nitro, Real Football 2014, and NFS NL, and these games are just the demo versions. Apart from these, the basic system apps and Google apps are coming pre-loaded.

How to change the wallpaper and theme on the Elife E8?

If you want to put out your own picture or capture as a wallpaper, it is just like how you do it on any other phone, i.e. through Gallery. Open the picture, and in its Menu you need to select “Set picture as” and then select Wallpaper.

But if you want to see what Gionee offers, there are two apps to check that – Theme Park and Amigo Paper. Theme Park has a list of themes available for the user to change and personalize the look of interface, while Amigo Paper has a list of wallpapers, both the apps being online ones and so there is a big database to check from.

Other very good way to change the theme, is by using Chameleon app. This app checks for the colors around, and then suggests a theme with those color combinations, changing it almost everywhere within the UI. It is something that would come to use when you need a theme that matches your dress colors.

How to customize or change quick settings in Control centre?

Unlike previous Gionee phones, the recent ones have quick settings available under Control centre that has to be dragged up from the bottom of the screen, and it has eight quick settings along with a brightness toggle.

To change these default ones, pull up the Control center, and there you will see a little shortcut with three dots just beside the brightness toggle. Tap on that, and you will see the section with more quick settings to choose from. Pull any one up from the bottom list, and you will be able to change it.

How to clean cache on Elife E8?

To do that, there is an internal app given in the phone. It’s called System Manager. Look for the app and open it, and you will see the information about the RAM being used by the device currently. Just below that, there is an option of Cache Clean.

Tap on that, and you will see the cache that is using up space in the device. You will then be able to clean the cache and thus free up some storage in the Elife E8.
