Nokia 216 launched by Microsoft with rear and front VGA cameras, flash support

Believe it, Microsoft is still making Nokia phones. But this could probably be the last phone from Microsoft having the Nokia branding. The Nokia 216 and 216 dual SIM is the latest launch and it comes with two cameras, which is not common for the Nokia feature phones, and understanding how common selfies are, the Nokia 216 is given a flash light for both the cameras.

Recently, in one of the big news in the mobile phone industry, Microsoft announced the sale of its feature phone business to FIH Mobile. Microsoft is also rumored to be killing its Lumia branding and focus more on the services part, but for now, we are still seeing it making feature phones and selling them in good numbers.

24th of October 2016 is when the Indian market will get to see the Nokia 216. It is a basic feature phone with a 2.4-inch screen with the QVGA resolution, and it is the Series 30 OS running in the device and the Internet-ready phone have Opera mini browser pre-loaded.

16 MB RAM is included and a MicroSD card slot allows storage expansion by up to 32GB. Do note that it is “MB” for the RAM and not GB, because given the pace at which smartphone brands are pumping the specs of the devices, we are soon going see a smartphone packed with whooping 8GB of RAM. But here, it is a feature phone and 16 MB RAM should be good enough.

A 1020 mAh battery powers the Nokia 216 with a standby time of up to 24 days, and up to 18 hours of talk time. A VGA camera (0.3MP) is on the back, so is one on the front of the device as well. Both the cameras have an LED flash support, but wonder what will a VGA camera give you even with light thrown on your face while taking a selfie.

Though it is not wise to compare the phone with any current-day smartphone, the capability of storing up to 2000 contacts is a good one to consider when choosing a basic feature phone. Opera Mobile Store is included if you want to download games and apps. The buyers will also get one free Gameloft game every month for a year.

The Nokia 216 will be available for the price of Rs. 2495 in India.
