Alongside the flagship, Note 9, Samsung has also launched the Samsung Galaxy Watch, today, at the Unpacked event. The new watch comes in either 42 mm or 46 mm sizes with either Bluetooth only or LTE & Bluetooth variants to choose from. The watch also offers interchangeable straps, which users need to purchase separately.
Samsung Galaxy Watch
As mentioned above, the Samsung Galaxy Watch comes in two size variants, 42 mm and 46 mm. The 42 mm watch comes with a 1.2-inch Circular Super AMOLED display, while the 46 mm watch comes with a slightly larger 1.3-inch Circular Super AMOLED display. The watches have a Full color, “Always On” display which sits under a Corning Gorilla DX+ glass.
Chipset & OS
Powering the watches is a 1.5 GHz clocked Dual-core processor with either 768 MB or 1.5 GB of RAM depending on the model you choose. The storage remains the same across both the Bluetooth & the LTE models, which is 4 GB. The watch runs on Samsung’s own Tizen based Wearable OS 4.0.
Health & Fitness
The Samsung Galaxy Watch comes with a heart rate tracker, as well as a new Stress Management tracker, that tracks a user’s heart rate as well as provides breathing exercises. Moreover, the watch can monitor the user’s sleep, including REM cycles.
The Galaxy Watch can track six exercises which are, Walking, Running, Cycling, Elliptical Training, Rowing & Dynamic Workouts. Apart from these, the watch also comes with 21 new indoor exercise tracking from 39 activities. The watch also helps users keep track of their food and water intake. Users will receive personalized alerts from Samsung Health app or can use the Bixby app to calculate the number of calories burnt or gained.
The LTE variant of the Galaxy Watch can be used as a standalone watch, without the need of carrying a smartphone along. Users will be able to answer calls, send or receive text messages, use GPS, stream music to wireless earbuds/headphones and many more.
The watch can also provide users with timely reminders and weather updates at the wrist’s end. It comes with Samsung Knox security, as well as offers Samsung Flow functionality to allow users unlock the PCs & Tablets when they are in the vicinity.
Apart from this, the Galaxy Watch can also connect to IoT compatible devices with SmartThings to allows users to access & control their devices such as turning on/off the lights and adjust the room temperature.
Connectivity & Battery
As mentioned above, the Samsung Galaxy Watch comes in a Bluetooth only and an LTE + Bluetooth variant. For connectivity, the watch comes with 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, Wi-Fi b/g/n, A-GPS & GLONASS.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch is compatible with Samsung devices running Android 5.0 or above, other Android devices running on Android 5.0 above. For iOS users, the Watch is compatible with iPhone 5 and above running on iOS 9.0 or later.
The 42 mm watch variant comes with a 270 mAh battery whereas a 472 mAh battery powers the 46 mm option. The Samsung Galaxy Watch charges wirelessly and uses WPC based wireless charging standard. For durability and resilience, the watch is IP68 certified up to 5 atm of pressure and is MIL-STD-810G standard compliant.

Pricing and Availability of the Samsung Galaxy Watch
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 46 mm variant comes in Silver color, whereas the Galaxy Watch 42 mm option comes in Midnight Black and Rose Gold colors.
The Bluetooth variants of the 42 mm watch comes at USD 329.99, while 46 mm watch will be available for USD 349.99. The watches will be available in the US at Amazon, Best Buy, and Samsung.com starting August 24th.
The LTE variants will be available at AT&T, Samsung.com, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon, along with select major retailers across the US, later in 2018.
Pre-orders for Bluetooth variant of the Samsung Galaxy Watch begin on August 10th and run through August 23rd, 2018, on Samsung.com. Consumers who pre-order or order the watch before September 8th will be receiving a free Samsung watch band.
