ASUS ZenFone Max Pro launched with 5.99-inch display, Dual-lens camera

ASUS India has launched the ZenFone Max Pro M1 smartphone, with India being the first market where the phone will be sold, followed by the other markets where the company is present. The ZenFone Max Pro M1 is a successor to the Max series, and it sits right in contention with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro.

The new ZenFone Max Pro M1 sports a 5.99” Full HD+ display, which is covered under 2.5 curved glass and has a screen resolution of 2160×1080 pixels. The display has a maximum brightness of 450 nits and an 18:9 aspect ratio. The phone is powered by Snapdragon 636 with Adreno 509 GPU. The phone comes in two RAM/ storage variants, 3 GB RAM/ 32 GB storage & 4 GB RAM/ 64 GB storage. The phone’s storage can be expanded up to 256 GB through the dedicated microSD card slot. For the first time, an Asus phone will be running on Stock Android, based on 8.0 Oreo. Up until now, Asus phones used to have their own custom Zen UI based on top of Android.

For the imaging, the Max Pro M1 comes with a 13 MP + 5 MP dual camera setup on the back with a dual LED flash. The 13 MP F/2.2 primary camera is an OmniVision unit which has a 80° FOV and Phase Detection Auto Focus. The 5 MP secondary camera is used for depth sensing for accurate portrait shots. To the front, the phone has an 8 MP F/2.0 shooter that has a 85.5° FOV, paired with softlight LED.

Unlike other phones that run on either a custom camera interface or the stock one, the ZenFone Max Pro M1 uses the Snapdragon camera app. It is done in order to take advantage of the Spectra 160 ISP on the Snapdragon 636 chipset. The phone can record 4K videos using the rear camera while the front camera is limited to 1080P. The phone can record 1080p videos at 60fps/ 30 fps frame rate, while the EIS is only available for 1080p 30fps videos.

The ZenFone Max Pro M1 comes with a massive 5000 mAh battery, which is said to have 34.1 days of 4G standby time. Despite having a massive battery underneath, the phone just weighs 180 grams. The phone comes with dual SIM 4G slot, and have dual standby as well. Although both the slots support 4G SIMs, only one SIM can run on 4G while the other is running on 3G, simultaneously. The phone’s rear is made out of a metal backplate, while the side frame is made out of polycarbonate, for better signal reception and better impact resilience.

For security, the phone comes with a rear mounted fingerprint scanner, which can recognize up to 5 registered fingers and as well as a facial recognition technology for face unlock.

Additionally, the ZenFone Max Pro M1 comes with a Max Box amplifier, which a simple cardboard add-on for your phone that can amplify the sound by 50%. The phone features a 2nd Gen NXP smart amplifier for better sound output.The phone also has a 5 magnet speaker.

Pricing and Availability

The ZenFone Max Pro M1 comes in two color options – Meteor Silver, Deepsea Black. The 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage variant is priced at INR 10999, whereas the 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage model is priced at INR 12999. The phones will sold exclusively on Flipkart.

The sale will start on May 3rd.

The ZenFone Max Pro M1 6GB RAM variant as well will be coming soon. It will have 64GB storage, 16+5MP rear camera combination and a 16MP selfie camera. The phone will be priced at Rs. 14999.
