Google Assistant is coming to all phones with Android 6.0 and later

While on one side it seemed like LG is bringing in a great addition to its list of features by having the Google Assistant pre-loaded and fully functioning in its latest flagship, the LG G6, Google put up a note on its blog saying that the Google Assistant is now going to be available to all the smartphones that run Android 6.0 Marshmallow and later. According to Google, the Assistant update will start rolling out this week to the phones with Marshmallow and Nougat OS for the English users in the U.S.

The update rollout will later be happening in Australia, Canada, UK, plus German speakers in Germany. It is said that more languages will be added later and the Assistant will be replacing the Google Search, which is the apt position for it to stay and interact with the user. The Assistant will be able to respond to the OK Google voice command.

Till now, the users who wanted to try it out would have had to use Google Allo, as it was only the Google Pixel users who could enjoy the Assistant features. Users who used this fully were able to tell the differences between the Google Assistant and the standard search bar. The former didn’t have some features that were commonly used, and thus we are hoping that Google doesn’t compromise and will have everything well available in the new release.

The blog post from Google reads:
The Google Assistant will automatically come to eligible Android phones running Nougat and Marshmallow with Google Play Services. You’ll also see the Google Assistant on some newly announced partner devices, including the LG G6.

Which are the eligible phones, we are not sure yet. We will keep updating this page with more details as and when we find them.
