Xiaomi launches Mi Crowdfunding platform in India

Xiaomi has finally brought the Mi crowdfunding platform to India with the launch of two new devices. A crowdfunding platform is a website wherein people (generally consumers/customers) support projects/products they are interested in by micro-funding the project. There are many crowdfunding platforms such as Indigogo, Kickstarter etc.

Xiaomi has launched two new products on its new Mi crowdfunding website, Mi Selfie Stick Tripod Black and Mi Bluetooth Audio Receiver White. Xiaomi might be expanding the product list on the website over the course of time. The new crowdfunding platform was announced alongside the ongoing Mi Fan Festival Sale, wherein many products are being sold at heavy discounts.

The products are well received and are being backed generously. The Mi Selfie Stick Tripod is already 169% funded with over 1664 backers, while the Mi Bluetooth Audio Receiver is 209% funded with 2046 backers. Both the products have already reached their 1000 backers target and the funding will end in 11 days. As of now, only these two products are up for funding.

With this new crowdfunding website, Xiaomi might be planning on expanding its reach into Indian homes. Although Xiaomi has been launching a lot of new accessories and smart devices in India lately, the number of devices that aren’t available such as Mi Home iHealth Thermometer, Mi Rice Cooker, Mi Smart Pen and many more in India, outnumber the former.

The Mi Selfie Stick Tripod is priced at INR 1,099, while the Mi Bluetooth Audio Receiver is priced at INR 999. Since it’s a crowdfunded listing, the products shall not be delivered right away to the customers who have backed/funded but instead would be delivered after the funding ends within a given time frame. The products should probably be delivered in batches after the funding ends.

The products can be purchased by making an online payment on the website. Xiaomi will return/refund the money too early backers if a product doesn’t achieve the required number of backers. Although we probably won’t see that happening since Xiaomi products are very well received in India.
